That is the beginning of the end of the NEA
Nearly nine out of ten Oregon residents would send their children to private, charter, or virtual schools, or educate their children in a home school setting if they had the decision-making authority, according to the results of a public opinion survey released today by the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice, the Cascade Public Policy Institute, and several other state and national organizations. Eighty-seven percent of residents polled would opt for schools other than regular public schools, according to the survey.

While doing that, remember that Oregon is a very, very blue state (with some decent sized red splotches). If someone can take this poll and the ones previously done for this organization over the past three years or so and craft and communicate a sensible plan, they could potentially get some very decent portions of the national parental vote (if you know what I’m saying).
This is for the folks who think I’ve been either too lenient (when they shoot a man charging them with a WWII era rifle complete with bayonet), or too harsh (when they gang tackle a 12yr old girl and fracture her skull) on law enforcement officers as of late
A BART police officer struggling to handcuff a 22-year-old man, stood up over the facedown Hayward resident and fired a single shot into his back while a handful of officers watched, a video taken by a train passenger apparently shows.

At the very minimum it is manslaughter due to an unintended discharge (the way he throws his hands up after the shot is fired indicates to me that it was unintentional). At the other end of the spectrum, it is murder deserving of the death penalty (and the whole “Ooops” moment was staged).
The video looks to be shot with a mobile phone and is more than a bit grainy and puts the necessary video at the very top edge of the screen. I think we can all agree that jail time is deserved here, either due to negligence (keep your boogerhook off the bangswitch) or belligerence (perp was an asshole).
Either way a man is dead because a SFPD/BART officer made a gun go off.

Then what might this be?
For the fourth time in three months, a remote natural gas pipeline in northeastern British Columbia was targeted with a bomb, police announced Monday.Damage to the EnCana pipeline near the community of Tomslake was discovered Sunday, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police summoned the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team, the Vancouver Sun reported.
The latest incident damaged a metering shed, but there were no injuries and no gas leaked, the RCMP said.
In October in the same area, two bombs were detonated along the EnCana line, and a third went off in early November, the report said.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but a handwritten letter sent to a Dawson Creek newspaper before the fist bombing demanded EnCana stop “endangering our families with crazy expansion of deadly gas wells in our homelands.”
Sounds to me like someone wants us to consider them an enemy.

Beginning Wednesday, Michigan will no longer require a post-purchase safety inspection of handguns purchased. Currently, every time a handgun is purchased in Michigan, whether it is a commercial sale or a private sale between two individuals, the purchaser must take the pistol to their local police department and present it for “safety inspection.” During these inspections, actual checks for safety really never took place. What was accomplished was that the make, model, caliber and serial number of the gun was registered to the purchaser.
For those unfamiliar, this scheme was used by local constabularies to deny firearms ownership to anyone the Sheriff/Chief of Police didn’t like. As you can imagine these denials were handed out to mostly the blacks and latinos.
Unfortunately, the Michigan State Police got their wish and an extra page was added to the purchase paperwork to be delivered by the purchaser to their local constabulary office within 30 days of purchase so that the firearm’s information can be connected to your CCW, but as David and the CalGuns guys are showing us, small steps can work.
I would suggest that whatever state firearms civil rights organization helped organize the removal of the “safety inspection” law now begin a campaign to designate one day a month when gun buyers drop off their paperwork; say, the 15th.
Flood the system on that one day for a few months and the constable’s admin folks will raise a shit storm. The paperwork has a deadline and these data entry folks have to meet that deadline or they are out of compliance.
Get enough non-compliance from the local agencies and you have a new issue that the paperwork itself is too onerous.

I don’t know though. In this case, $0.42 will get you $0.01. According to my calculations, that is a net loss of $0.41.
The IRS sent James Howarth a bill for 5 cents and demanded he pay. Then they sent him a refund notice for 4 cents but said he’d have to request payment since it was under $1. He tried to call to sort it out but couldn’t get a live person. Now he doesn’t know what to do. Just stamping the envelope is 42 cents, after all.
Yes, give these folks the job of administering my health care. At least I won’t live long enough to hear about many more of these.

In heavy rotation on our local dance station is the below track, which I can’t get out of my head. Imagine my delight to discover the video is as compelling as the song itself. You can never get too much gyrating eye candy, that’s what I say.
At a couple of points in the evening they played this song at the 2008 Energy 92.7 Anniversary Blast which was quite the party. Sadly, I screwed around to the point that we arrived about an hour later than I wanted to, so we missed the sub-headliners I wanted to see live, Ercola and Bellatrax.
