Joe gets tipped by a reader about a proposed change to Washington State hunting regs

WAC 232-12-054 Archery requirements–Archery special use permits. (1) Rules pertaining to all archery:(a) It is unlawful for any person to carry or have in his possession any firearm while in the field archery hunting, during an archery season specified for that area, except for modern handguns carried for personal protection. Modern handguns cannot be used to hunt big game or dispatch wounded big game during an archery, big game hunting season.

I have italicized the new proposed addition.

I don’t hunt. I have a severe allergic reaction to waking up at oh-dark thirty in the freezing cold to go for a hike in the dark.

But there is no reason that someone who has more willpower and patience than I should have to be disadvantaged against  the forest’s predators, not to mention the meth-cookers and poachers, just because they want to give the animal a sporting chance.

So I’m working on one, and it goes a little something like this…..

Pat over at the Judicious Asiniity blog has done some number crunching and figured out that under the Dem’s $825 billion “economic recovery bill”, each household will have to contribute $8250. But instead of cutting our taxes buy $8250 per household, they’re going to spend it on intangibles.

So, I’m keeping my eyes peeled to try and find a way to get some or all of that money back and I see this other Dem idea come across the wires (via TRE)

Congress is mulling a proposal to pay people to get rid of those old gas guzzlers sitting in their driveways.

Under legislation introduced Wednesday in both the House and Senate and called the “Cash for Clunkers” program, drivers could get vouchers of up to $4,500 when they turn in their old fuel-inefficient vehicles for scrapping and buy vehicles that get good gas mileage.

A “free” $4500, you say? Hmmm.

It just so happens that I have a 1974 Ford F-250 I’m trying to get rid of. I paid $500 for it and it gets about 8mpg.

Depending on their requirements for the “good gas mileage” I could either get a fun little commuter Gen I Toyota MR2 (like this little cutie) or a Gen II turbo (like this one), each gets 25-30mpg. Or if I need to tell them the make and model of what I’m getting, I could pick up this well done AE86 Corolla.

But I suspect that there’ll be model year requirements and such, so it doesn’t really matter what I get, so long as I can sell it for cash (or another voucher that I can redeem for cash).

For now, just watching and waiting.
