10 Days Left

Before the puny island that was once Great Britain sinks into the North Atlantic under the weight of their police state.

The relationship between photographers and police could worsen next month when new laws are introduced that allow for the arrest – and imprisonment – of anyone who takes pictures of officers ‘likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism’.

Set to become law on 16 February, the Counter-Terrorism Act 2008 amends the Terrorism Act 2000 regarding offences relating to information about members of armed forces, a member of the intelligence services, or a police officer.

The new set of rules, under section 76 of the 2008 Act and section 58A of the 2000 Act, will target anyone who ‘elicits or attempts to elicit information about (members of armed forces) … which is of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism’.

A person found guilty of this offence could be liable to imprisonment for up to 10 years, and to a fine.

The law is expected to increase the anti-terrorism powers used today by police officers to stop photographers, including press photographers, from taking pictures in public places. ‘Who is to say that police officers won’t abuse these powers,’ asks freelance photographer Justin Tallis, who was threatened by an officer last week.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse. Arresting tourists in 5..4..3..2..

I just can’t help myself

The stimulus bill is making “conservatives” run around like screeching idiots for two reasons. It is of course their default mode. More importantly, though, if the bill works — even if it just kinda-sorta works — then what do they have left of their dogma? If it can be shown that the government can actually do stuff like “fix problems,” then there’s no just point to conservatism. Which, you know, there isn’t, except insofar as it’s a massive jobs program for innumerable, innumerate right-wing hacks, clowns, charlatans, liars, frauds, true-believers, and imbeciles of the Jonah Goldberg class. All “conservatism” is, at root, is vapid sloganeering about how “government doesn’t work.” It’s easy enough for them to “prove” this when they’re in charge, as they’ve so spectacularly demonstrated. But what if someone can come in after them and run the place competently?

Likewise, I cannot see how they can say that “The People” want a government that works, when the realistic ending to that phrase should read “government that works you to death for its benefit/entertainment”.

Which is why Senator Debbie Stabenow (Fascist – MI) wants to make talk radio “accountable” for the opinions spoken.

Of course, it would have nothing to do with the fact that her husband is Tom Athans, who was Executive VP of Air America before it took a dump, and is currently running the leftist TalkUSA Radio network.

No coincidence at all.

In Ten Days I Take Her Home With Me

Sherlock Holmes fans will get the reference; everyone else will think I’ve named my rifle after a character on Friends. Well, everyone else above a certain age, I suppose.

I have to wait ten days, but I get visiting rights, of course, so I can fondle her whenever I want. That makes me sound like a perverted divorced dad, but I don’t care! I’ve not been this giddy for a while.

Oh, yeah, those Cooper rifle plans got pushed back, let’s say, a few more months. Maybe more than a few.
