I just can’t help myself

The stimulus bill is making “conservatives” run around like screeching idiots for two reasons. It is of course their default mode. More importantly, though, if the bill works — even if it just kinda-sorta works — then what do they have left of their dogma? If it can be shown that the government can actually do stuff like “fix problems,” then there’s no just point to conservatism. Which, you know, there isn’t, except insofar as it’s a massive jobs program for innumerable, innumerate right-wing hacks, clowns, charlatans, liars, frauds, true-believers, and imbeciles of the Jonah Goldberg class. All “conservatism” is, at root, is vapid sloganeering about how “government doesn’t work.” It’s easy enough for them to “prove” this when they’re in charge, as they’ve so spectacularly demonstrated. But what if someone can come in after them and run the place competently?

Thers of the FireDogLake blog

I cannot imagine why anyone would desire to be “governed”.

Likewise, I cannot see how they can say that “The People” want a government that works, when the realistic ending to that phrase should read “government that works you to death for its benefit/entertainment”.

They love the warm sticky embrace and the hot python breath of Government squeezing and squeezing until their eyes pop-out.

  2. Rivrdog says:

The playing field is badly tilted here. What’s going to happen is already foretold, and I’ll wager that the pressers are already written.

The bill will pass, the Prez will sign it, and it will kick off a stock market rally of a few weeks and maybe 1,000 points on the Dow.

The (D)onks will scream exultation to their Messiah, someone, although probably not Geithner, will declare the recession over, and then reality will set in about a month later when industrial output has not risen, new factory orders are not pouring in, and home prices are still sinking.

The (D)onks CAN’T pre-write the pressers for THAT situation, and if the GOP isn’t ready to declare that massive government intervention has failed and we should stopcock the money flow immediately, then they have missed ANOTHER, and maybe their last opportunity to stop the Socialist steamroller.

The same sort of people who join cults; they don’t want the responsibility of making decisions, so they obey the will of someone else.

I’d be more likely to pay attention to the proles that post on sites like that if any one of those products of he leftist education/indoctrination system could show me where anytime in recorded history socialism worked.

“I cannot imagine why anyone would desire to be “governed”.”

They want to be governed because they don’t want to be responsible for their mistakes.

  6. NMM1AFan says:

And if the bill doesn’t work, will Thers even admit it?

    Of course not.

Show me one problem the government has solved.

  7. Rivrdog says:

…and by his own admission, Obama told us recently that he had made a terrible start to his Presidency, so that parting shot about competency rings hollow and misses the mark.

  8. Army of Dad says:

NMM1AFan Well there was that little unpleasantness between 1939 and 1945. 😛
Of course that is actually an enumerated duty of the federal government and as such just proves our point…
