RNS Quote of the Day: 06/12/09

Knute Berger posted up a list of Six Things You Cannot Say in Seattle.

It’s a pretty good list, though it could be whittled down to five, because #5 is a rather large exageration.

I’m going to excerpt #6 because it is absolutely true.

There is no surer ticket to the Mental Hospital for the Criminally Insane than to make this declaration in Seattle today. Republicans haven’t been a factor here in 40 years. Most people in Seattle have never met a Republican, let alone voted for one. To admit to being a Republican is to declare war on the sensibilities of the recycling, biking, companion-pet-owning, suburban-hating loners you live among. If you are not involuntarily committed, you will be advised to move to Bellevue, where you can speed the way toward planetary death with your own kind.

Knute Berger

Not only is this absolutely true, you can stake your weeks pay that not only have most Seattlites never met a Republican, they wouldn’t know a Libertarian if one walked up and offered them a puff off a joint at Hempfest. The absolute worst part about this factoid though is that, without prompting, they will tell you all about why R’s and L’s are so horrible.

Seeing as how I grew up and live here, I know quite a number of Democrats, leftists, liberals, progressives, marxists, radical socialists, anti-zionists and anarchists (aka: the people I write about here at RNS) who are pound to be labelled as such. If I swung dead cats, I wouldn’t be able to do so without hitting one.

One of the reasons I put all those stickers on the back of Buddy the Jeep is because, well, it’s nearly seven feet tall, and I figured that if I’m going to stand out in the cityscape like that and piss people off slightly, I might as well go ahead and go all the way with it.

Lots of used imports coming to the market soon

Because it seems as though the only way to be a “patriotic American” in the near future will be to buy a GM product.

Earlier this week, Hugh Hewitt spoke about boycotting GM products in protest of the goverment takeover. Air America and MSNBC host, the increasingly unhinged Ed Schultz, repeatedly said that “that is some of the most unAmerican garbage” he’d ever heard. John Amato of the leftist CrooksAndLiars blog accuses folks who won’t buy a GM vehicle of attempting to “destroy the American auto industry.”

So I guess they’ll probably be selling their current rides and buying one of the first Government Motors turds off the line then?

Over at GayPatriot the idea is expounded upon, and reminds the sinestra that if they want to show how supportinve of the Obama Administration they are, then they should trade in their precious Prius’, their Volvo’s, their Honda’s, Saabs, Subarus, Toyota’s and VW’s for a shiny new GM compact slapped together by folks whose income is derived from sucking on the government teat.

I’ll be watching and waiting.

The Soundboard: Rock Solid Edition

The chiropractor visit yesterday went well. I discovered that my lack of caution while lifting wasn’t the problem. It was my balls.

After walking around for 35+ years with that much mass moving about, I guess that I should have expected some problems. The doc has prescribed me some extra-tight tighty-whities which I will pick up this morning and he’ll see me again in a week.

OK, seriously, his first question after seeing my x-rays was how long I’d been riding chopped motorcycles. When I told him that I never had he asked about extensive wheeltime in sportscars with nearly solid suspensions. I had to plead guilty there. He pointed out where I was compressed from the ride and where I was beginning to look over-flexed from having to bend my extra-heighted self into them.

A couple of big hugs and three crunchy pops later and I could rotate at the waist more than I had been able to in a while. Sleeping and waking up was better too.

Then I almost had to assault him and steal his massage chair. MSNBC would probably consider it a torture device, but I think the only thing it needs is a Happy Ending option to make it perfect (especially if the Ending signal brought in either of his x-ray babes).

So, to commemorate the occasion here is a Metallica track from when they actually, well, rocked solid, with footage of other folks doing things with cars and motorcycles that most likely sent them to the chiropractor.

And if you liked that, here it is live (while Newstead was still around).

Enjoy!

This isn’t the first time

That I have wondered if Robert A. Heinlein could see the future.

Read this excerpt of his book, The Door Into Summer, and wonder for yourself.

He has a point.

Drunken sailors generally spend cash that they’ve already earned themselves, rather than running up debt to be paid by others. If our politicians started spending like drunken sailors, it would in fact represent a dramatic improvement.

Point. Set. And Match.

To hammer home the point, here are a couple Political Math vids that I found quite enjoyable to watch. That is, until I realize that I’m having to live through them.

Spending video using measured distance and speed.

And here is a jobs video using coinage.

The RNC really need to hire this guy and get him to make prime time television commercials.

Decisions, Decisions

Who are Reid and Pelosi willing to piss off more?

Gun owners or the GLBT crowd?

Clearly, the endtimes are upon us. Republican Sens. Tom Coburn (Okla.) and John Thune (S.D.) are offering eyeing the possibility of proposing* friendly amendments to the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act, sponsored by Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.).

It’s a peculiarly Republican way of playing nice, to be sure: Coburn and Thune are proposing the addition of an amendment promoting interstate concealed carry. From the Democratic perspective, it’s sort of like when your cat brings you a dead mouse. Sure, you’re grossed out, but maybe the cat meant it as a gesture of friendship—or at least an acknowledgement of your superior position in the pack (pride?).

They can piss off the GLBT folks by ditching the whole bill, or they can piss off the nation’s firearm owners by ditching just the reciprocity portion.

Or, they can make everyone happy and pass the kit and kaboodle (yeah, right!).

Stats

Is your city’s Mayor an Obama supporter?

Then I hope your city’s laws don’t prevent you from owning/carrying a firearm.

Getting a point across

The public employees who work in the London Underground ar currently on strike.

Some folks are not happy about this and want to send a message to the workers.

This, I think, does the trick rather well. Probably NSFW.

Yes, the job training is a two-day certification course. Suitable for those who able to read a watch but cannot assemble a Big Mac.

Getting Bent

As David and Derek can testify from their visit to Firebase Blue during their Boomershoot trip, I have a tendency to not think before I lift. Two hands on, bend at the knees and let’s see how heavy it is.

It worked for my nearly 40 years, so why change?

Apparently, my body is considering that age to be “getting on in years” since, more often than not, I now wake up having a bit of trouble standing up at first. So, after getting a referral from a trusted co-worker, I’m off for my initial visit to the Chiropractor this morning.

The Wife thinks they’re quacks, so she is coming along to observe (and make fun of any odd noises I may make). We’ll see if it actually is my former “invulnerability” or if I get to go mattress shopping.

RNS Quote of the Day: 06/10/09

If I knew whether or not he’d given the Obama campaign money, I’d call it buyer’s remorse.

Like many Americans last November, I voted for change. I had hope. I no longer have hope since the president I voted for never mentioned a fraction of the agenda he now espouses. I did not vote to lower my standard of living, humble as it may be. Nor did I ask to jump into the economic abyss in order to “save” the planet.
