The Soundboard: Tasteful Selections Part 1

As promised last week, I’ll be posting tracks from albums with which I agree with Tom Moon and his book 1000 Recordings to Hear Before You Die. I’ll probably alternate The Soundboard weeks between agreeing and disagreeing in the future to try and get a good spread and not be as negative about the book as I have in the past.

Especially since I took a look at the Rolling Stone Top 500 albums list for the first time in forever and have deemed it to be of even more crapfilled than I previously remembered. Here’s a hint for the RS staff: A Greatest Hits album does not go on any list.
Moving on….

This week’s tasteful selection agreement is his inclusion of Emerson, Lake and Palmer’s fourth album, from 1973, Brain Salad Surgury.

Still…You Turn Me On – ELP

While I pretty sure that Surgury is their most popular album, it is not my personal favorite. I’m actually not totally sure which one is, but near or at the top of the list is 1972’s, theTrilogy album, from which we get today’s second bit of tunage, which I am dedicating to the former senior Senator from Massachusetts, Edward Moore “Ted” Kennedy.

Got Grub?

I’ll be driving to David’s place in the East Bay area of central California the day before the Ronde. It is supposedly a 12 hour drive and I’ll be looking for some tasty eats on the way down.

I’m planning on leaving Firebase Blue in Tacoma at around midnight and hope to be near Grants Pass or Medford, Oregon by 0700 or so. Anyone got a suggestion as to good food around there (preferably lunch style, but breakfast will do)?

The founding principles that made our country great are under attack.  Our constitution is under attack.  Our free markets, our access to health care choices, our hard-earned income and our individual liberties are under attack. Our rights will not endure without those willing to fight for them.

I’m tired of President Obama and the liberals who control Congress insulting us, calling us racist, and calling us a mob. I’m tired of their double-talk. I’m tired of their bait and switch shell games. I’m tired of being avoided by my public servants. They have forgotten that they work for us.

I’m going to Washington to fight once again for my country.  It is different from the battles that I fought as a United States Marine, but the goal is the same.  The goal is liberty and security: security in knowing that my health will not be decided by faceless bureaucrats, security that my taxes will not increase and sink my job and my family, security in knowing that my young son will grow up in a free and prosperous nation. But I cannot do this alone.  This is the time to get involved.  This is a call to action.

He’s challenging Rep. Gabrielle Giffords for the AZ-08 seat next year and needs a hand in doing so.

After all, when was the last time you remember someone trying to get voted into national office who said this

The Second Amendment of the Constitution is not just about hunting. It is about the right of a free people to defend themselves which is why I am a strong supporter of the right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms.

Exactly who is “Full of Hate” again?

Just yesterday, there were three stories of violent activists in the news:

Milton Ohlson III is a suspect in a bombing of a law firm.

Katyanne Kibby was indicted for threatening to kill the man who acted as the FBI informant that got her and her friends arrested for a bomb plot conspiracy.

Maurice Schwenkler was arrested for vandalizing a large political HQ office in Denver.

What do these people have in common?

They all hate Republicans.

I don’t think the word “Community Organizing” means what they think it means.

Sure, before becoming President, Obama hung around with people who plotted to kill people with bombs and folks who vandalized both private and public property. But c’mon.

You thought that “Cash for Clunkers” money was free?

Oh, you silly citizen!

But many of those cashing in on the clunkers program are surprised when they get to the treasurer’s office windows. That’s because the government’s rebate of up to $4500 dollars for every clunker is taxable.

“They didn’t realize that would be taxable. A lot of people don’t realize that. So they’re not happy and kind of surprised when they find that out,” Nelson said.

…..

Nelson adds that if you did recently purchase a vehicle, ensure your dealer gets you the paperwork in time because if they don’t you could pay extra interest and penalties.

So, in South Dakota, they’re counting adding the $4500 “CfC” credit as part of the price of the vehicle. So if you thought you were only paying sales tax on a $10,500 car, you’ll be surprised to find out that you’re going to be paying for a $15,000 car.

Also, for you guys who live in states that have no sales tax and/or no sales tax on car sales, your state is legally able to count the $4500 as “Income”.

Never mind that you never got to touch a cent of it, you spent it and they want their pound of flesh out of it.

If you have both Car Sales tax AND income tax in your state they can double dip you and there is nothing you can do but smile while you drive you new car! Be careful going over those bumps. Your sphincter is probably going to hurt when they’re done with you.

Silly citizen. When will you learn that there is no such thing as “Free” when you’re dealing with the government.
