A group of Michigan tea partiers successfully shut down a protest of the Detroit Auto Show arranged by the National Tax Payer’s Union today on the grounds that it was more important to protect American jobs than it was to condemn the government bailout of the auto industry. The AP was on the scene at the protest and found just two tea partiers in attendance. That’s despite a national call for a rally at the show by the National Tax Day Tea Party last week.
The organizers of the rally hoped to place hundreds of angry tea partiers in the face of White House officials and prominent Democrats like Nancy Pelosi, who visited the show today. Instead, they ran into an online campaign to shut down the protest from Michigan tea partiers who called it an affront to the thousands of Michiganders who rely on the auto industry for a paycheck.
The Michigan Messenger reported Michigan tea partier and ex-GM employee Joan Fabiano’s Facebook posting urging her fellow protesters to stay away.
They’re joined by their fellow Tea Party protesters who want the government to stay out of health care, and not lay a finger on their Medicare.
So during an extended play session with my wife on Christmas Eve, I managed to misplace my wedding ring. We had a good couple weeks joking about where it likely slipped off my finger and in which particular well-lubricated environment it might be residing. However, time’s passed and I still can’t find it. Looked everywhere — floor, bedframe, nooks, crannies, and other err environments, etc. Washed all the laundry in case it was hiding in clothes or sheets. Nada.
This of course gives me the excuse to get the wedding ring I’ve always wanted. I intend to ship a 12-gauge carbon-steel barrel from an old H&R shotgun to a competent ‘smith, have him lop off several ring-sized segments, and charcoal-blue ’em. I’ve mentioned before that I like the color blue, and a wedding ring the color of the blue parts of this gun is something I’ve wanted for quite a while now.

(I want more than one ring because: 1) charcoal bluing will scratch easily, I’ve heard, and 2) I lose things from time to time. See above.)
Soo…. any recommendations for a good gunsmith or metalsmith who’d do the job? Firehand, is this up your alley?
If this keeps up, the Brits stand a chance to find out exactly how cuddle polar bears aren’t.
Warmest winter in living memory, my ass
In fact, the Met still asserts we are in the midst of an unusually warm winter — as one of its staffers sniffily protested in an internet posting to a newspaper last week: “This will be the warmest winter in living memory, the data has already been recorded. For your information, we take the highest 15 readings between November and March and then produce an average. As November was a very seasonally warm month, then all the data will come from those readings.â€
Do their math skills suck so badly that they can’t take the temperature for every day during winter and average them? That would be approximately 90 days to add together and then divide. I’d even buy them a calculator.
Or is it that they’re looking for a particular outcome?
That’s what I thought.

In the land dotted with the remnants of elegant castles, your home is not your castle.
In fact, being inside it gives you no more rights than if you were in a shopping mall.
Miss Klass, a model for Marks & Spencer and a former singer with the pop group Hear’Say, was in her kitchen in the early hours of Friday when she saw two teenagers behaving suspiciously in her garden.
The youths approached the kitchen window, before attempting to break into her garden shed, prompting Miss Klass to wave a kitchen knife to scare them away.
Miss Klass, 31, who was alone in her house in Potters Bar, Herts, with her two-year-old daughter, Ava, called the police. When they arrived at her house they informed her that she should not have used a knife to scare off the youths because carrying an “offensive weapon” – even in her own home – was illegal.
Jonathan Shalit, Miss Klass’s agent, said that had been “shaken and utterly terrified” by the incident and was stepping up security at the house she shares with her fiancé, Graham Quinn, who was away on business at the time.
He said: “Myleene was aghast when she was told that the law did not allow her to defend herself in her own home. All she did was scream loudly and wave the knife to try and frighten them off.
I hope a hundred Harry Brown’s rise up soon.
Hell, I’d settle for five.

The chance to secure crucial information about al-Qaeda operations in Yemen was lost because the Obama administration decided to charge and prosecute Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab as an ordinary criminal, critics say. He is said to have reduced his co-operation with FBI interrogators on the advice of his government-appointed defence counsel.
The potential significance became chillingly clear this weekend when it was reported that shortly after his detention, he boasted that 20 more young Muslim men were being prepared for similar murderous missions in the Yemen.
The lawyer for the 23-year-old Nigerian entered a formal not guilty plea on Friday to charges that he tried to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner on December 25 – even though he reportedly admitted earlier that he was trained and supplied with the explosives sewn into his underwear by al-Qaeda in the Arab state.
“He was singing like a canary, then we charged him in civilian proceedings, he got a lawyer and shut up,” Slade Gorton, a member of the 9/11 Commission that investigated the Sept 2001 terror attacks on the US, told The Sunday Telegraph.
“I find it incomprehensible that this administration is treating terrorism as a law enforcement issue. The president has finally said that we are at war with al-Qaeda. Well, if this is a war, then Abdulmutallab should be treated as a combatant not a criminal.”
Mr. Makes-Boom-Boom-In-His-Pants needs to be treated exactly the same as the Nazi saboteurs who landed in Long Island, NY and Jacksonville, FL in 1942. Captured, handed over to the military, tried by tribunal and executed.
Why is this so hard for some people to figure out? Why would they want it any other way?

Washington will be talking about it tomorrow.
And it’s about damn time.
If you want to be able to grow or sell marijuana legally in Washington, next Wednesday you want to be in Olympia.
At 1:30 p.m., the House Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Committee will consider House Bill 2401 to have the state treat marijuana like it does alcohol. The bill is sponsored by Democratic Rep. Mary Lou Dickerson.
What that means is if you are 21 or older you won’t face civil or criminal penalties for growing, possessing, transporting, selling, or using marijuana. Like with booze, you can’t smoke and drive or provide any to minors.
Under the proposed legislation, pot could be purchased at state liquor stores. A hefty tax would be added on with proceeds going to drug education and awareness programs.
Other than the state psuedo monopoly, it sounds reasonable to me.
Discuss.
Pretty soon, they’ll be making those of us who use software pay a fee and register with them.
Where would our Secretary of the Treasury’s excuse be then?
We’re guessing that when Americans think of outlaw industries, tax preparers aren’t the first rogues that come to mind. But lo, the nation’s green eyeshades are now destined to come under the regulatory rule of the IRS as part of the Obama Administration’s latest revenue grab.
Under the plan, which would begin with the 2011 tax season, anyone who takes money to help people with their taxes will have to register with the IRS, and eventually pass competency tests and sign up for continuing education. So having made tax filing so complicated that most Americans need help with their forms, Washington now wants to raise the price of such counsel by regulating advisers in a way that may reduce their supply. …
Cheering the new regulations are big tax preparers like H&R Block, who are only too happy to see the feds swoop in to put their mom-and-pop seasonal competitors out of business.
Go ask a leftist if this is the “change” they voted for.
They’ll call you a liar. Don’t ask how I know this to be a fact.
Go read. Laugh.
