Wedding Ring Bleg

So during an extended play session with my wife on Christmas Eve, I managed to misplace my wedding ring. We had a good couple weeks joking about where it likely slipped off my finger and in which particular well-lubricated environment it might be residing. However, time’s passed and I still can’t find it. Looked everywhere — floor, bedframe, nooks, crannies, and other err environments, etc. Washed all the laundry in case it was hiding in clothes or sheets. Nada.

This of course gives me the excuse to get the wedding ring I’ve always wanted. I intend to ship a 12-gauge carbon-steel barrel from an old H&R shotgun to a competent ‘smith, have him lop off several ring-sized segments, and charcoal-blue ’em. I’ve mentioned before that I like the color blue, and a wedding ring the color of the blue parts of this gun is something I’ve wanted for quite a while now.

(I want more than one ring because: 1) charcoal bluing will scratch easily, I’ve heard, and 2) I lose things from time to time. See above.)

Soo…. any recommendations for a good gunsmith or metalsmith who’d do the job? Firehand, is this up your alley?

Titanium rings will last quite a bit longer and are also blue, with iridescent highlights. That’s the ring I’m hoping to get when my day comes.

Let me do some checking, I think I know a guy

    Oh very cool!

Mollbot, I looked at the titanium ones and the style I’d want (solid blue, no silvery bits) didn’t look terribly shiny — more of a dull finish, which is not what I’m looking for.

Plus, it wouldn’t be made from a shotgun barrel!

So far, the guy I checked with says neg, he’s not set up to do charcoal bluing.

    Looking around some more

the best wedding ring is of course the very expensive diamond ring.*~
