Random Nuclear Strikes

9/11 was packaged into a public drama.

Packaging complex issues into simplistic, easy to digest sound bits is a big part of the reason we have such partisan and heated rhetoric these days.

Bush et al knew many Gitmo detainees were innocent and did nothing.

Camp Lejeune policy banned the display of “extremist, indecent, sexist or racist” messages on cars. Mr. Nieto had been required to remove from his car an “Islam = Terrorism” decal, a “Disgrace My Countries [sic] Flag and I will SHIT On Your Quran” decal, a “decal depicting an Islamic crescent moon and star with a diagonal line superimposed upon them and the words ‘No Quarter’ and ‘Islamic Terrorist,’” and a “decal depicting Calvin urinating on Muhammad.”

The danger of predicting the future based solely upon “what the markets tell us“. Not everything of value is priced accordingly by the markets.

It’s about having the freedom to control my information.

I’m a bit of a greenie, so I’m all for reducing our dependence on oil & coal.  I’m also not a total idiot and I know that wind & solar are not going to be able to provide for our energy needs anytime in the near future.  Therefore, I think we need to focus on nuclear power, both the existing fission technologies, and the developing fission & fusion technologies.

Jerry Taylor over at Cato thinks nuclear is a no-go since it needs major government support in order to get going (i.e. nuclear would be a non-starter in a free market).  He’s probably right, but there are a lot of businesses that need or enjoy government subsidies, including natural gas & coal.  Rod Adams, a pro-nuclear activist, has something to say about that.

Personally, I think the era of the big nuclear plants is on the way out, to be replaced by smaller, modular reactors & travelling wave reactors.
