QOTD

I’m not saying that being a thug who uses his wealth to threaten or file pervasive censorious harassment suits is as bad as being a thug with an established history of violence against women. But it’s in the ballpark. And if, like Joe Francis, you’re both — well. Not sure what to say about that, except to hope that the next woman Joe Francis gets mad at is a lifetime NRA member.

Such a simple idea

That it won’t even cross the minds of the overthinkers in the Obama Administration.

Last Friday night, co-worker Paul was visiting me at my office and we were discussing the issue. I laid out this scenario.

You should read what is at that link. It is exactly what I told Paul, but with many fewer explicatives.

The Revenge of Security Theater

Don’t be mouthing off to the TSA dweebies.

You WILL respect their authority!

Airline passengers who get frustrated and kick a wall, throw a suitcase or make a pithy comment to a screener could find themselves in a little-known Homeland Security database.

The Transportation Security Administration says it is keeping records of people who make its screeners feel threatened as part of an effort to prevent workplace violence.

Privacy advocates fear the database could feed government watch lists and subject innocent people to extra airport screening.

Is this guy trying to say that government employees might abuse their power? I’m sure this article will get him put on the list.

This is my attempt to get on it

What Gun for Steamy Shower?

I’m actually serious. From time to time I’ll hop in the shower or take a long soak in the tub and a firearm will be nearby. (Not in the shower, but rather in a cubbyhole, or on a shelf, where the air around it gets unavoidably steamy.) Without question the guns used for this purpose are stainless steel; I’m not stupid.

However, the question is: should I avoid a stainless revolver (easy to wipe down any condensation from the major parts, but it’s definitely not sealed) in favor of a stainless semi-auto (theoretically no condensation would get into the chamber with a closed slide)?

Does it really matter?

FWIW, every time I’ve done this, by the time I exit the shower and towel myself off, the guns appear to be dry and free of condensation.

Death Penalty for dog who tried to help owner

Dog tries to drag dying owner to safety, gets euthanized.  Would it have really cost that much to just impound the dog until after the coroner released his findings?  I sometimes think our justice system is a bit too callous with regard to pets.

This is just insulting

Maybe Phil will tell me I’m being an elitist, but seriously, why the fuck do King County Bus Drivers make $75K – $100K a year?!  I can’t imagine bus driver training takes more than 6 weeks, if not less, or that it requires some extra-human set of reflexes, so I fail to see how, except for the fact that the public sector is on a spending spree, do bus drivers merit that kind of pay.  I spent 10 years in school, not counting my Navy training, getting my Master’s & learning to be a aerospace engineer and software developer, incurring debt, and I make just a bit more than a bus driver?!

That. Is. Insulting!

I know how much the Fed.gov pays civilian employees, and chances are pretty good that if I got a job working for Uncle Sugar as a Silly-Villian, I’d be making maybe 5%-10% more, but at least the pay is still in the market competitive bracket.  And I don’t buy that line of BS that Bus Drivers deserve to make a living too.  I got the same line of shit from entry level IAM workers who think that $12-$15 is not enough money.  No shit it ain’t enough, get off your ass and go to school, or learn a trade, and don’t bitch to me about how you can’t get ahead as a machinist (err, mechanic) because of Union senority rules, not my problem, no one made you take that job.  Same with bus drivers, pay not enough, go back to school, learn a skill that adds more value than just carting people around in a wheeled box.
