Remotely troubleshooting a Linux cluster setup by phone is a bitch. In this video from Detroit, MI, a neighborhood gang repeatedly takes over a corner convenience station, scaring the clerks into quitting their jobs and leaving the store so that they can proceed to hang out in their new “turf”.
The owner calls the police, but the teens just get up and leave when they arrive and then come back when they leave. And then cause more damage to the place.
Here is the racket: The Detroit PD says they cannot put an officer there all day, which I understand, but they recommend that the owner hire and off-duty officer, at full union wages, to patrol the place.
I’m sorry, what? If I have video of these punks fucking up my store and scaring away my customers, aren’t they arrestable? Can I not then get a protection order against the individuals as well as one for their “gang” so that if they return they are breaking the order? Which would then make them a threat, so that I could then use force to deter/remove them?
No? I have to hire an off-duty officer?
OK, fuck that. I’m calling the A-Team. You can come pick up the corpses at the end of the day.

A non-fact based group does a non-fact based survey of the coverage of glowball warmening at FOX News and the Wall Street Journal and finds, low and behold, that neither news outlet is running around like children on fire screaming about how we’re all going to die because people like to drive cars and keep their homes warm and well lit.
FOX News Coverage 93% Wrong, Study Finds
Primetime coverage of global warming at Fox News is overwhelmingly misleading, according to a new report that finds the same is true of climate change information in the Wall Street Journal op-ed pages.
Both outlets are owned by Rupert Murdoch’s media company News Corporation. The analysis by the science-policy nonprofit Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) finds that 93 percent of primetime program discussions of global warming on Fox News are inaccurate, as are 81 percent of Wall Street Journal editorials on the subject.
“It’s like they were writing and talking about some sort of bizarre world where climate change isn’t happening,” study author Aaron Huertas, a press secretary at UCS, told LiveScience.
“It’s clear that we’re not having a fact-based dialogue about climate change,” Huertas added.
The report, available online, focused on Fox News and the Journal because of both anecdotal and academic reports suggesting high levels of misleading climate chatter in each. UCS researchers combed through six months of Fox News primetime programs (from February 2012 to July 2012) and one year of Wall Street Journal op-eds (from August 2011 to July 2012), for discussions of global warming.
How is this news?
This is like running a survey of gun blogs and finding that they don’t support a ban on assault weapons.

Foreign central banks are buying up about half of our deficit (by way of the monetary obverse of trade flows), and the Fed is taking the rest, mostly as QE. Who’s not funding the deficit? U.S. individuals, businesses and banks—they’re not increasing their net holdings of debt assets… The government is literally printing money, and sterilizing it at the same time. DO NOT call for an end to the NFL referees strikes.
I repeat: Do Not.
If the country can’t see how bad the media is at reporting the truth, then they deserve to get messed up calls in their men-in-tights eggball games. When you hear someone say that the strike should end, make an analogy with how the media ate up the lies from the White House and State Department about what happened in Libya on September 11th, 2012.
Or, if you think it would be easier, make a comparison between the screwed up call and the Senate not passing a budget in nearly 4 years.
The strike must go on. Analogies must be made. Who knows, maybe that’ll be how things change.
