It is not unthinkable

Though, with Hollande and Merkel in charge, not very likely

France could commit the foreign legion to Syria and could invoke NATO Article 5 requiring joint NATO action

Mr. Reuel Marc Gerecht, a former case officer in the Central Intelligence Agency, is a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. Gerecht gave an analysis in the Wall Street Journal.

Because of the attacks Friday, the narrative will change. The soft-power-heavy, somewhat guilty Western analysis of Islamic militancy—where the progressive-minded avoid referring to Islam in describing an antipathy that sanctifies killing—is now dead in Europe and will soon be irretrievably embarrassing across the Atlantic.

If France committed to seeing this fight through to the end, the French make it more likely that the U.S. will commit more ground troops in Iraq and, as consequentially, put soldiers into Syria to create a defensible haven where civilians and the armed Sunni opposition can gather without fear of attack. Europe’s refugee and counterterrorist nightmares have no chance of resolution until the Syrian war is stopped.

If the French are willing to commit the Foreign Legion in Syria, an idea no longer unthinkable, it is much more likely that the Americans will consider ground troops and the arduous, dangerous, long-term effort to stabilize Syria. Although profoundly constrained by the size of its armed forces, France could serve, as Margaret Thatcher did for George H.W. Bush, as a back stiffener and force multiplier.

I would not count on Hollande to do any of these things. While he isn’t as much as an empty suit as out chief executive, he does still have a base to keep.

However, there are these things called “elections”, and they have a way of bumping the guy who doesn’t follow national willpower out of the decision making process.

This is a Test

Of Western intestinal fortitude.

I notice that the American left is not talking about their favorite Chief Executive’s chickens coming home to roost. That is not a good sign.

On a better note, even reliably leftist newspaper editors in the Eurozone are coming to the realization of the true level of violence in and across Europe.

If you haven’t read Richard Minter’s “Nine Aftershocks of the Paris Terrorist Attacks” yet, you should. They are all good and correct, but pay special attention to #9.

Even though there is nothing an individual at the scene of an attack could do in the case of ISIS making good on their promise to re-import the car bomb into their strategy, I’m starting to make changes to my out and about gear. I’m upgrading “The Bag” to be less “bug-out” and more “stand and deliver”, whether I’ll be delivering first aid or covering fire will depend on the situation. If you see a sale on G21 mags, drop a link. I’m short a dozen.

I’d prefer to not be at a place where someone who has fallen ill with Sudden Jihadi Syndrome, but sometimes you can’t TCOB without going to those places.

On a personal note

There is a relatively new channel that popped up in my cable box called Ovation and a couple months ago they started showing three episodes of Boston Legal every Monday evening. So I started recording them onto the DVR to watch when there was nothing else on. The series is being shown in production order, so it’s kind of like having the DVD set without having to buy them.

Yes, the show is preachy and devoutly leftist, but I’m a big boy and can ignore all that while still enjoying the characters and their banter. But I’ve noticed one other thing it is that I really do enjoy about it: It is a primer on Jury Nullification.

In the majority of episodes, when they “win the big case” it is because a jury decided to not convict the person of the charges the state had pressed even though it was plain the defendant was guilty.

I don’t watch many “court shows”. In fact, I can’t think of a single other one. So, I may just be missing a common theme or trope, but if this isn’t common, it should be. Maybe more justice would be done instead of just rubber stamping indictments into convictions for the pleasure of District Attorneys everywhere.

So Full of Hate

They are willing to believe anything.

I only watched part of Tuesday night’s debate among the “R” candidates (the wife can’t stand the damn things), but caught this on one of the leftist sites yesterday:

Why Marco Rubio Owes Philisophers an Apology

Rubio made a comment during the debate about how the nation needs more welders than philosophers entering the workforce.

“Welders make more money than philosophers. We need more welders than philosophers.”

This is a true statement by any measure. There is little to no measurable demand for someone who sits on their butt and tells people about random shit. However, the US government (the leftists all knowing, all seeing friend), the national association of manufactuers, and the American Welding Society all agree that there will be nearly 300,000 TOO FEW welders available in the industry in less than five years.

Despite all the evidence proving the above, Think Progress found a site that lists the earnings difference between an AAS degree in Welding Science versus a BA in Philosophy. The Philosophy degree holders DO earn more. But theyre is nothing listed about their employment rate or how quickly they were able to find work after attaining their degree.

The current problem with the Welding AAS is that the top students in welding programs are headhunted out of the programs before attaining the actual degree which skews the numbers. I was a good student, but not among the top five in my class, so I had to wait a whole 10 days after completing the course before being offered two jobs.

Also, they don’t bother to mention that the average BA degree costs three-to-four times what my AAS did and takes three-to-four times as long to complete. I spent approximately $16k for 18 months of courses and left with four internationally recognized certifications. 18 months in a Philosophy course qualifies you to serve coffee at minimum wage plus tips.

Which is what most Philosophy majors end up doing for a few years before figuring out that they wasted their money and time and doing something their successful at.

The leftists hate the “R” candidates so extensively that they’re willing to kick all logic square in the ass and out the window and downplay a good career to badmouth them.

If the leftists want to know the reason the trades are booting out unions, it is because the people going into the trades don’t have time or a low enough self-esteem to believe what the unions are selling. Those folks go to Liberal Arts colleges to get coddled.

My neighborhood is a violent place

And now the taxpayers are responsible!

Or so says a group of lawyers representing students and faculty of the Compton School District

An unprecedented, class action lawsuit brought against one Southern California school district and its top officials could have a big impact on schools across the country.

On Thursday in Los Angeles, a U.S. District Court judge will preside over the first hearing in the suit against the Compton Unified School District. To understand the complaint, you need to understand Compton.

The city, located just south of LA, has long had a violent reputation. Last year, its murder rate was more than five times the national average. Now, a handful of students say they’ve been traumatized by life in Compton and that the schools there have failed to give them the help they deserve.

I saw this story on one of the Sunday MSNBC shows. The host, miss “the phrase hard work is insulting to slaves” Melissa Harris Perry, suggested the district turn around and sue the feds because the district is already too broke to deal with student with actual disabilities.

It California, so who knows how far this one will go.

I’ve Heard

Of the concept of “self-hating” and “self-loathing”, but this guy takes it way too far.

It’s time to do away with the concept of “manhood” altogether

Men are pretty terrible people. They commit significantly more violent crimes, robberies and assaults each year than women do, according to the Department of Justice. They are more likely to show anger in the workplace and be rewarded for it while women are affected negatively for the same behaviors. They even take up too much space on public transportation when “manspreading”. I could keep going.

Men probably dominate all these “terrible” statistics because, now and throughout history, they’ve dominated the world. But that doesn’t give them a pass. They are still to blame even if they don’t know better, and it’s high time their dominant position – their entitled ignorance – was questioned and dismantled.

I’m pretty sure that I know what the ultimate goal here is: For him to impress some 3rd Wave Feminist womyn and get laid.

I’m not worried about some “concept of manhood” ever going away. It is born into the species. It really only turns to evil when it is repressed or otherwise confined.

So to the author of the piece, Zach Stafford, I’ll make an offer: You go ahead and get rid of your manhood first. Let me know how that goes for you.

RNS Quote of the Week

In case you missed it over at the AoSHQ earlier this week

The enemy of the Jew becomes the enemy of the world. That simple, albeit mysterious, historical rule has been repeatedly demonstrated. Regimes and ideologies that target Jews never stop there; they are imperialistic by nature, and begin by identifying the “other” — and Jews have been the quintessential other — and move on to target ever-larger circles.

So why is there not more sympathy for the Jewish people? Among the thousand theories perhaps there is no improving on Maurice Samuel’s simple declaration: “No one loves their alarm clock.” Jews have been the disturbers of the world’s sleep. Long before the Western world knew it was fighting a battle with radical Islam, Jews knew. That realization brought them more indifference or contempt than affection.

It may be

Symbolic

But it is symbolism I can deal with.

The residents of Coos County, Oregon, passed a ballot initiative Tuesday night that requires their sheriff to block the enforcement of state and federal gun laws that he thinks seem unconstitutional.

The 2nd Amendment Preservation Ordinance passed with 61 percent of the vote. The measure directs the sheriff to decide whether certain state and federal gun laws violate the Second Amendment. If he thinks they do, the county is then banned from using any resources to enforce those laws. Any county employee who violates the ordinance will be fined $2,000.

It is questionable how local officials would enforce the initiative.

Coos County Sheriff Craig Zanni told The Oregonian last month that he is a strong supporter of gun rights, but had concerns about his role in deciding what is and isn’t constitutional.

“I’m not sure the courts would agree with that concept,” he said. “I would just bet there would be some legal challenges to it.”

Charlie Hinkle, a constitutional law expert in Portland, Oregon, said Zanni would be violating his oath of office by enforcing a county ordinance that is contrary to state or federal law.

“Of course local officials can’t decide what laws are constitutional. That’s why Kim Davis went to jail,” Hinkle told The Huffington Post. “Even the president can’t decide what’s constitutional — that’s why a federal court enjoined his executive orders regarding immigration.”

Similar measures have been adopted in Eastern Oregon’s Wheeler and Wallowa counties, and they’ve amounted to little more than symbolism. Supporters want to use the ordinances to bar local enforcement of Oregon’s background check law, which passed in May and expands checks to almost all gun sales in the state. The initiatives are also part of a broader push by pro-gun enthusiasts to make federal gun control “nearly impossible to enforce.”

The reason I can deal with this symbolic idea is because it only requires one person to do something, and he asked for the job. If he doesn’t want the task, he has an option.
