Sadly, I Cannot Recommend Atlas Shrugged Part 3

The wife and I just went to see it, and it’s just a really bad movie. And we liked the previous two.

I appreciate the financial constraints, but it really showed here. The director’s choices may have been due to making the film on a shoestring budget, or not, but in any case they tended to be bad ones. Fans of the book will not, I think, be happy — and who the hell else did they make this film for?

The inclusions of Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, and Ron Paul were jarring and not, I thought, useful additions at all.

She Who Must Be Obeyed and I saw it yesterday. Disappointing. Will not be adding it to our collection. Casting, Production, Script, Acting, Direction — bad. The Cinematographer tried, but couldn’t overcome the foregoing. YMMV.

Hannity is a good guy, but he’s a mile wide and only an inch deep. His books are pretty much “intellectual” at the bumper-sticker level, with more words fleshing out the points and concepts.

Still, he’s on our side and has a huge megaphone. So, he’s useful, even if not fully effective.

Beck, conversely, is a serious thinker underneath a media-clown-suit. He’s not always right, but he’s always sincerely working to BE right, and seems willing to face it when he’s wrong. Far more complex and nuanced than Hannity, and he’s playing the long game for sure, with his Mercury empire.

Ron Paul? I think he’s far more credible than his dad, but I also fear that the apple ain’t all that far from the tree. Rand makes some odd statements and has some odd reactions…. I wonder when the real Rand will break-forth from it’s constraints and be the turbocharged clone of his dad, that is worrying.

Frankly, Mr. Limbaugh, once separated from his “schtick” (the bombast, the self-aggrandizement, etc.), proves to be one of the most accurate and prescient of all political commenters, as well as being very well-ahead of most all of his conservative peers in calling the plays, even before the ball is snapped.

As for the movie(s)? That’s what boxed set DVDs are for. I’ll watch all three in a binge, and take ’em from there.

Meanwhile, look for bumper stickers on John Galt’s car, asking of my whereabouts.
