Premise: The Satanic Temple describes themselves as “a faith community that facilitates the communication and mobilization of politically aware Satanists, secularists, and advocates for individual liberty.â€
To this end, they are planning on using the SCOTUS Hobby Lobby verdict to ask that Satanists not be held to follow any restrictions a particular state may place on abortion procedures.
What this has to do with forcing employers to pay for a couple morally objectionable forms of birth control (which the employee can still buy on their own) is beyond me. I can only guess that they think they can compare another person or group’s morality to their reported lack of any in a court of law.
No word on how long they believe it should take to gain “closely held belief” status. I’m going to take as to mean that instant conversion would suffice for their purposes. I think it should mean that members need to be within the temple for at least 9 months.
