Why I’ve Been Mostly Quiet

On January 1st the wife and I took a drive into the Sierras on a whim to look at a property. This despite my ten-year-plan’s endpoint of a retreat in the Wallowa Valley.

Suffice it to say my thinking on viable retreat locale locations shifted to include the remote Sierras. We bit the bullet and every weekend since has involved moving stuff up to our new spot in the hills.

So imagine my surprise and pleasure to read this piece. It’s actually rather remarkable how closely this woman’s description of the geography of her retreat matches my own. I wonder if we’re neighbors?

I highly recommend you read http://www.amazon.com/Modern-Survival-Manual-Surviving-Economic/dp/9870563457 by “Ferfal”. He’s lived through the Argentine collapse (twice now) and says remote retreats sounds great… to the bad guys, because when systems fail law enforcement concentrates in the nicer areas of the cities, and nobody can hear you scream and call for help when you are in the hinterlands. He’s got a lot of interesting insights in the book.

Congrats on the escape-hatch! What I’ve been finding is that fresh air and altitude alone have been instrumental in flushing out years of negativity, paranoia, hubris and elitism brought on by the toxic, smuggy, reality-distortion-field cloud-think of life as a semi-privileged BayAryan – a confused mental state than even – and perhaps especially – the average J0e-shmuck non-privileged BayAryans drift into by virtue of the bubble-life.

@Rolf, I have read it multiple times; when it first came out I briefly offered to edit some of the grammar for a second edition, but never followed through.

Happily, the place isn’t *that* remote; we have neighbors we can see through the trees and are part of a small unincorporated hamlet that’s got a pretty strong community of residents.

@NotClauswitz, absolutely! I have definitely found the nearly-automatic attitude adjustment both surprising and utterly, delightfully refreshing.
