Happy New Year, Hippies

They’ll have to go to therapy to try and figure out why mommy and daddy government hate them so much

Owners of electric cars in Washington state don’t buy gasoline or pay gas taxes, but they’re soon going to be hit with a $100 fee to own the battery-operated cars.

A section of Washington state law that takes effect next year will require electric-car owners to pay a $100 annual fee for road and highway improvements, intended to compensate for the gas taxes they no longer pay.

The law does not apply to hybrid vehicles or to those that don’t exceed 35 mph. About 1,600 cars currently registered in the state would likely be subject to the fee, including the Nissan Leaf, Tesla Roadster and some custom electric vehicles, according to the state licensing department. Hybrid vehicles that use electricity and gasoline, such as the Toyota Prius and Chevrolet Volt, are excluded.

For the back-ups the Nissan Leaf owners create in the two left lanes, they should be charged $100 a month. Oddly enough, the majority of the Prius owners I travel the interstates seem to believe they are related to Dale Earnhardt.

Funny you should mention that, because I tend to drive my wife’s Prius like a maniac for some odd reason.

I find that the Prius drivers on I-5 tend to neglect their cruise control feature so they can annoy me by passing me, then pulling in front of me and alternating between 62 and 68 mph.

    Remember from after 9/11?

It isn’t nice to ask why someone hates you.

The question is, what have you done to make them so upset?

That is what the electric vehicle folks need to ask. What have they done to make mommy government and daddy taxman so upset?

  4. Mollbot says:

Deprived them of revenue, would be my guess. Follow the money…
