Of course, we have water problems too; the Edwards Aquifer is getting low, and the TX rice farmers and San Antonio keep draining it. Not quite as bad as SocCal, but a major issue which needs to be addressed.
Colorado has the headwaters of the Platte, Arkansas, Rio Grande and Colorado rivers. If worse came to worst, we could shut them off to downstream users. Say goodbye to southern California, Arizona and New Mexico, and put a serious crimp in Nebraska, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Colorado also has burgeoning oil, gas and shale fields. We grow wheat and potatoes on the eastern plains, plus fruit and other stuff on the western slope. We ranch beef all across the state. Oceans? Who needs oceans? We hold the high ground. We also have quite a few military bases, five in and around the Springs alone.
Hippie juice makes a clean burning, eco-friendly bio-fuel. Throw in hipsters and we’re gold. Perhaps we’re not so bad off up here in the Pacific Northwest?
