I just can not wrap my head around this guy. Â I can understand wanting a new start. Â I can get walking away from the wife & kids and creating new life elsewhere. Â I can even see how offing the spouse for insurance money would appeal to some.

You cannot fathom such a mindset (and rightly so) because you are a rational, upstanding person that takes his responsibilities seriously. It is likely (although I suppose not guaranteed) that you learned such behavior from your parents. I’m fairly certain yon scumbag isn’t, and doesn’t, and didn’t, respectively.
He’s not actually imprisoned, he’s in protective custody. If he were to be released to the general jail population, they’d do some percussive body-temperature/room-temperature-equalization drills on him.
