Not the Cathedral

Last week Phil posted about the newest addition to his family. The crew here at RNS seem to have our animal events takes place coincidentally. We all lost a dog last year and now two of us have added back.

In March I adopted a border collie rescue named Milo. Not a name I would have chosen but it’s the one he came with so I’ll deal. I’d never spent much time around border collies before but had heard they were a smart breed. I’m a believer now.

The newest is a golden retriever pup I brought home last week. My first inclination was to name him Shiloh (as in Sharps . . .  as in 45-70), but that would make three dogs in the household with names ending in “OHH”.  The wife has a little freak of nature known as a shit zoo whose name happens to be ElmOHH. I just couldn’t do another OHH, so I went with my second choice of Winchester, as in Oliver, not the cathedral.

I’ve given him firm instructions to ignore the wife when she addresses him as Winnie, and to respond only to Winn or Winchester.

Priority items for new puppies are toys, so we went shopping . . .

And swimming . . .

Rolling in dirt to get the camo suit on . . .

Back at the ranch, they get the water boarding rinse and then it’s rest period . . .

Very nice set of friends there you have, Dave. Congratulations!

Dogs are never quite so endearing as when they are sleeping. My pitbull, Bella, is sleeping on 2/3 ds of the sofa right now. How an 80# dog can use up more couch than I do is a constant source of wonder. Anyway, congratulations on acquiring a new friend, and I hope Winn proves to be a wonder.

Very nice looking couple of home-pack members you got there. I hope you don’t lose to much furniture to them 🙂

Yah, it’s Dog Time here, too. Ours two old ones passed about a year apart, tw0/three years ago. We finally got a replacement pound-pup back at the end of January, and our best guess is she’s a border collie mix too, coming with the name of “Ruffles.”

She was picked up as a stray near Spokane in December at 37 pounds. We picked her up a month later at 47. She’s now stabilized at about 57 pounds of sleek muscle and fur. And yes, she’s smart; doesn’t take boredom well, and had VERY expressive ears. Makes a great Frisbee chaser, thought not such a good retriever. Likes herding the kids, but also still nips at them when they are playing (which we really need to work on). Likes digging, too 🙁

Those are great pictures, loved them. I miss my dogs, the wife and I are planning to get one once the bambino is a little bit bigger, I think.
