Unintended Consequences

In the wake of this morning’s Obamacare ruling upholding the Constitutionality of the individual mandate, I found this amusing. From Calguns.net poster dantodd:

A Proposed Individual Mandate for the Second Amendment

Yes, I am perfectly serious. Yes, I think there is a chance to make this really happen. No, I’m not thrilled that the government can mandate participation in an economic activity but that is where we are right now.

A Proposed Individual Mandate for the Second Amendment.

A well regulated militia being necessary for the security of a free state,

As the constitution clearly states it is within the realm of the government to ensure that our unorganized militia be we regulated (or provisioned.)

As such each able bodied person above the age of 18 is hereby mandated to purchase and keep a weapon suitable for service in the militia. The Dept. of Defense shall provide a listing of the basic type of such weapons that they currently issue to our servicemen. Any individually serviced weapon, not counting sidearms and explosives shall satisfy this mandate.

As most such weapons are regulated by the National Firearms Act and many may not currently be legally acquired by the Hughes Amendment, any such weapon shall receive a tax stamp at no cost and the Hughes Amendment is hereby repealed.

Other weapons suitable for militia service shall also be granted tax stamps at zero cost. These would include but not be limited to grenades, suppressors, appropriate sidearms, and certain other explosive material.

The purchase of one mandate qualifying militia weapon per person shall be tax deductible once every ten years. As the state must also assure that the militia is well trained any ammunition purchases up to $1000 per year shall also be tax deductible.

If anyone over the age of 18 chooses to opt out of this mandate there shall be assessed a penalty equal to the average MSRP of one standard issue infantry long arm per year that they choose to not meet this mandate.

Anybody know a Representative or Senator willing to put this up?

Hippies who do not want to be militiamen should also be forced to buy a Permit to Not Open Carry, and anyone not openly carrying may be accosted by the police to determine if they have a Permit to not Open carry.

  2. Petey says:

    ^Hell, yeah.
I bet Chuck Grassley would after he gets done feeding AG Holder through a wood chipper.

  3. Kristopher says:

Welp … I guess we can tax anything we don’t like now.

    How to tax hippies ….

Tax not owning a carry permit.
    Tax not driving a car
Tax not eating red meat once a week
    Tax not eating bacon

I wonder what else we can tax hippies for not doing?

  4. dfwmtx says:

Tax Congress; they can afford it.

    Meet with a lobbyist = $100,000.
Say something stupid on TV = $500,000
    Screw over constituents = $750,000

National debt will be gone in no time.

  5. Phil says:

Kristpoher, tax them for not bathing and put a fucking $100 per ounce tax on Patchouli. Those bozos keep pushing the idea of a $100 tax on individual rounds of ammunition. Let them eat those two.
