RNS Quote of the Day: 05/10/12

True. With pictures.

Borrowed from the comments section of Samizdata.

Politicians can’t reform Social Security because they can’t talk about it honestly, and they can’t talk about it honestly because the median voter doesn’t want to admit a basic fact: Grandpa is an embezzler.

  1. Kristopher says:

Grampa is not an embezzler … he is just a spendthrift.

He decided he liked all of that spending last century, but was unwilling to pay for it with higher taxes. So his hired money managers ( politicians ) spent his savings ( social security ) to pay for the decades long party.

Now that he is destitute, he is trying to use the vote as a weapon to steal money from his kids, and making noises about how his savings were robbed to justify this.

  2. Rivrdog says:

Contrarian here. I loaned the dot.gov well over 300K over 47 years. They’re now paying me back, with interest. The interest on the loan I made TO the government, some of which started in the 1950’s, is considerable. At $1.5K/mo rate of payback, I’ll probably never get it all back, and my heirs can’t claim the balance, so I will be stiffed by my government, as most creditors of this government are.

Did the government mis-spend the money I loaned them? Probably. Will there be enough money left to pay ALL those back who were also forced to loan the government money? No. What happens when the government stops paying everyone back? That depends on my shooting eye and my ammo supply.

Last I checked at the range this week, the shooting eye still works, and my reloading press is ready…

  3. Kristopher says:

Are you going to shoot those baby-boomers who voted to spend all that money?

“The government” are just a bunch of pimps. The real whores vote Democrat.

  4. Gerry N. says:

There are something like 545 men and women who are elected to represent us in Wash. Deecee. They long ago stopped representing and went to ruling. What needs to happen, but almost certainly won’t is a total house cleaning in the hallowed halls of Congress. After that, a general return to Constitutional restraints on the Fed.gov. That isn’t likely to happen either.

Perhaps it will take the application some Patriotic Manure for the Tree of Libeerty once again to flourish. Mayhap it will bear fruit in the form of the carcasses of over reaching officials and myriad gauleiters dangling by their necks from it’s blessed branches. Lamp posts are also suitable for this purpose.
