I think this encapsulates it perfectly

The current incarnation of this article says: “The group performed at the Super Bowl XLV Halftime Show and showed the world that they have no talent and that Fergie is a rank slut.[2]”
I watch hip-hop vids about as often as I get my innards rebuilt surgically, only 4 times now. I watched it all last night, and while I can’t say I was impressed, I wasn’t unhappy, either. The half-time show was far better than the Christina Aguilera’s performance on the National Anthem. I mark myself down as entertained.
From what urban legend said, halftime shows were started during Prohibition to keep spectators from going back to their cars and drinking. Now that we have ended Prohibition, and they sell beer in the stands or can drink at home, we really don’t need a halftime show to keep us occupied. We have the commercials to keep us ocupied while the players rest and relax.
Why do the impresarios always put on headliners that are on the back side of their careers and going downhill fast? Wasn’t last year’s show Prince, who hadn’t done original work in years?
Having heard of them many times but never actually paid attention, I actually watched their end concert on TV a few days ago. It was more like a Broadway or Vegas show than a concert. Not really my style but Fergie sure belted out a few songs. She also does an amazing cover of Barracuda – a song that takes serious guts to even try.

I think every halftime show is overhyped and no band has a chance of sounding decent there.
