The entertainment has already begun

And the 112th Congress hasn’t even been sworn in yet.

Yesterday I predicted that enacting a rule forcing the Democratic Socialists of Congress to “cite the specific constitutional authority” of each of their proposed bills would make for some laughable reading. And I was right.

I just didn’t think it would start within hours of writing that post.

The title of David Dayen’s post over at the ever increasingly whiny FireDogLake was “Republican House rules makes it harder to increase debt limit, raise taxes.

Besides informing me that I am probably going to like these new rules, Dayen complains about “mandating all spending increases get offset by cuts elsewhere and not tax increases.”, whips out the worry beads over the fact that some people will have to end their 120+ week long vacation and laughs at the idea of reading the Constitution on the House floor at the beginning of the session.

But the most entertaining part of it all was the closer where he puts his nose in the air and quips

In other rules changes, the GOP may take away Eleanor Holmes Norton’s voting privileges as the Representative from DC. It wouldn’t be the Republican caucus without taking voting rights away from an African-American.

I’m sorry that Mr. Dayen doesn’t know that the Constitution does not allow the District of Columbia a Representative. Maybe if he listens when it is read aloud, he’d learn that.
