Remember the Lend/Lease Program?

So will your children. Except that the one they remember will be the second one.

Royal Navy may need to borrow US fighter jets

Britain could be forced to “borrow” American warplanes for its new aircraft carriers as the Armed Forces’ core capabilities are eroded by budget cuts.

The country could also turn to America for surveillance aircraft if plans to buy new RAF spy planes are scrapped.

Furthermore, the Navy may lose its ability to put troops ashore in an amphibious assault.

The prospect of relying on allies for military hardware has emerged from talks about the extent of the defence cuts.

Dr Liam Fox, the Defence Secretary, has said that, instead of “salami-slicing”, where pain is shared equally across the department, the cuts must be allocated strategically.

Defence sources have suggested this will result in the Forces giving up entire capabilities, like aerial surveillance and amphibious landing.

Britain would have to rely on allies until the defence budget recovered, when these operations could be resumed.

Once again, parts of Europe cannot defend themselves because of their overwhelming social spending.

And once again, they look to America for help.

Let us all just hope it doesn’t come to the point where we needs to send their civilians small arms.

We should make a “lend-lease” deal thusly: for every fighter we loan them, they have to grant 50,000 concealed weapons permits. For every surveillance plane, 75,000, and a standing fee of 1,000 permits for each practice landing in ANY aircraft we loan them.

Should they happen to prang one and we get to shovel up the scrap metal, an entire City gets to keep and bear firearms.

If they go to war with our aircraft, and WIN that war (a Falklands-type war), they have to grant themselves a Second Amendment type of freedom for their entire nation.

Then we’ll see if New Labour really wants to borrow our warbirds.
