2010 Will Be The Best Boomershoot Yet

…for me, at least, regardless of how well I shoot, because it’s 99.9% certain now that my wife will be attending. I’d thought this might be the year my Zoroastrian friend would show up, too, but alas, it’s not to be. Next year!

For so long now I’ve been wanting my wife to share the experiences that add up to make Boomershoot the highlight of every year for me:

–the drive north from California (especially the Boise-Orofino stretch, which IMO is as gorgeous as any scenery in Bavaria)
–Trib’s Place
–Gene Econ’s Clinic (whoops, gotta sign her up)
–The High-Intensity event
–the drive down that magnificent grade into Orofino
–the cameraderie of the RNS crew and other shooters
–the Boomershoot Dinner (it will be tough for this year’s speaker, Michael Bane, to top Gene’s speech from last year, but we’ll see)
–and of course, Boomershoot itself. Hopefully this year’s fireball will be more like 2008’s than 2009’s. 🙂

My wife’s never shot a rifle before, so she’ll be in the same position I was when I showed up to Gene’s Clinic in 2005 for my first Boomershoot. I think that’s all for the best — nothing to unlearn, and the “wow” factor when you make that first hit way out there is, I think, all the more exhilarating for first-timers.

For me, Boomershoot’s a bit like sex. You never forget your first sexual experience, and if it was good, you keep trying to approach or exceed that rush every time. Similarly, every shot at a Boomer has the potential to be just as exciting as your first one. Perhaps my logic’s flawed, but since my wife and I both like sex, I think she’ll like Boomershoot too.

Do yourself a little favor, David, and get her some range time, if nothing more than to get her familiar with the mechanics of her rifle. In a pinch, that can be done in your living room.

Also, you’re invited to bring your considerable survival knowledge and camp down at the far end with me and whoever else shows up, like Ry and his dad. It’s always fun to show the folks just how comfortable camping can be.

We might be “camping out” sooner than we think, bro, time to get used to it again.

Look forward to seeing you again, Rivrdog. I don’t know if my dad will be able to make it this year.

+1 on getting her to the range for a couple hours before you come down!

If you guys have room, I had planned to tent it as well, although I’m not certain which day I can get there. Looking forward to meeting you all.

Plenty of room, BillH, we only had 3-4 tents last year.

I have an 8X9 popup, but I’m working on someone with a big elk camp tent. If he can make it, we’ll be stylin’.

Also, if my tax man is good to me, I might have enough funds to finally get a used tent trailer. We used one last year, and it was a good solution.

Even if I had to sleep under the stars, I’d still be there…
