The Horror

Yesterday was a typical winter’s day in our neck of the San Francisco Bay Area — a chilly 50 degrees most of the day, 60 in the sun. Of course we had a stout fire going all day to keep off the chill. The weather folks claimed the snow level might get as low as 1000 feet, but not anywhere close to our 200-foot elevation.

Imagine our shock at seeing the below this morning at 6:30 am — covering my wife’s car — will it melt in time for her to drive safely? The roads will be slaughterhouses!

Y’all be safe out there.

My wife has been down there for the past few days. She said it might snow this morning. She took a light coat with her, and she’s an Idaho gal, so she’ll be OK. I think I’ll take a heavy coat for her when I pick her up tonight at the airport though… it was 12 degrees in the duck blind this morning and it is 15 right now as the sun is going down. Single digits by morning is my guess. Glad I shoveled the snow today, it’ll be hard as ice tomorrow.

I don’t recall any snow at all during my 4 or 5 winters at Ft Ord or the Presidio across the bay…

Yep, it’s more like what most folks elsewhere would probably call “heavy frost,” but I still get a kick out of the locals acting like it’s our own mini-Katrina.
