The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department has reported that four police officers have been shot dead in an ambush at the Forza Coffee coffee shop at 11401 on South Steele Street in Lakewood Sunday morning.
Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said investigators are immediately offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the suspect, and that number is expected to grow.
He could not say what agency the officers were from.
The officers were sitting in the coffee shop with their computers out when the shooter came in. The officers were targeted, and it was not a robbery, investigators believe.
“It was just a flat out ambush,” Troyer said.
Pierce County deputies are working at the scene with Tacoma Police, Lakewood Police and the Washington State Patrol.
When your location is predictable, and your actions delayed because of your having switched from Condition Yellow to Condition White (because you feel unnecessarily secure), even a tank with legs is going to be taken out.
If I had to guess, I’d say gang initiation.
Although my understanding was that open conflict with the PoPo was frowned upon. Bad for business. There’s a reason Tony Soprano and the boys don’t go after the FBI or even the local cops.
They’re reporting two assailants, one black and the other non-black. I’m thinking that probably rules out gang. I’m leaning more towards some kind of mob hit. Possible bad cop in that bunch?
I’m thinking it’s too soon to jump to Bruckheimer-esque conclusions, other than (as I said on NW Freethinker) there are no magic talismans, including badges or CPLs, and that even cops and soldiers can be in Condition White.

Just saw that they’ve gone back to just one suspect. Didn’t they have a guy torching cop cars and then shooting an officer in Seatle just about a month or so ago?
