RNS Quote of the Day: 09/13/09

What’s mine is mine. What I volunteer to hand away, I volunteer freely.

And yet, because I disapprove of some of the expenditures that some of my fellow citizens wish for government to make with the money I do not give away freely, I am considered greedy.

I am not. I could be, but I am not.

To take from one, because it is thought his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, the guarantee to everyone the free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.

And they will even argue that my wages are not “taken at the point of a gun”, though I have no way to politely tell them that that is the only method of extracting a portion of the wages I earn for their spending pleasure.

But it is completely voluntary, you see. Fork it over and no one gets hurt. It is your choice.

    Oh, brother.

Well, it would not be a short exercise, but you can probably politely walk someone from one end of the “do not pay your taxes -> have police officers show up at your front door” logical chain. The problem is, then those same people will be making excuses for the application for force, and the entire exercise becomes moot…

  3. Grumpy Old Ham says:

    “That’s racist!”

Of course it is. Jefferson was a slave owner, so anything he said or wrote, including most parts of the Constitution, are obviously racist as well.

See how easy it is to think like a dain-bramaged liberal?
