Found on Calguns. Apparently a “classic” IM thread. Keyboard warning: don’t be drinking anything when reading this.
This whole deal happened via IM while chatting about what Jason B. was getting done to his rifles @ Jerry Newman’s shop…
jasonlu says:
What are you getting done?
[email protected] says:
He is changing the bolt fluid on my actions.
jasonlu says:
WTF?
Vu says:
Don’t u do that on your surgeons?
Change the bolt fluid?
Tell me u do man
For **** sake tell me u do.
jasonlu says:
WTF
u 2 are full of ****
Vu says:
Inside the bolt body
ok
have u taken the firing pin
all the way apart?
jasonlu says:
yes
well taken the pin out of hte bolt,..yes
Vu says:
Not just out…. APART
jasonlu says:
no
Vu says:
So u really never had it all apart?
[email protected] says:
Allows for less friction and faster lock time
Vu says:
Well not only that
jasonlu says:
There is fluid INSIDE the pin?
Vu says:
But u know how mercury recoil thing works right?
jasonlu says:
no
Vu says:
OK
Imagine this……
[email protected] says:
I had a mercury guild rod in my Glock
It’s nice
Vu says:
You have a pipe….
[email protected] says:
Less recoil
Vu says:
It’s only filled half with fluid.
What happens when u shake it?
jasonlu says:
momentum
Vu says:
EXACTLY!
Now imagine that in your firing pin assembly.
[email protected] says:
Changing the fluid keeps from having a light primer strike
Vu says:
I have it on my KMW and GAP
All of them.
jasonlu says:
So they drill out the pin and put fluid in it?
Vu says:
It’s hollow
Machined process
jasonlu says:
Too much work
[email protected] says:
But you can’t do it at home, needs to be tig welded up, and the mercury is toxic and will **** you up
jasonlu says:
Mine is fine the way it is
Now I have to call Surgeon and ask for them to do that on my action that I’m getting on Friday
[email protected] says:
So your happy with 3 out of 9 matches? Might be why your shots are inconsistent
If it has been a while
Vu says:
Hold up
You meant u ordered it without?
Man….
jasonlu says:
I didn’t even know it’s an option
Never heard of that **** before…..NEVER
Vu says:
Really?
[email protected] says:
Jerry told me about it, I didn’t know till he told me
Vu says:
Tell u what
Don’t call surgeon bro
I’d call Jerry up
cheaper
probably faster
Just tell him u want your firing pin bolt lube changed
Like you did for Jason Boak, Vu, and the rest of the boys
jasonlu says:
How much?
Do I just send him my bolt?
[email protected] says:
Like 50 bucks plus shipping
Vu says:
Yup
Just the bolt
[email protected] says:
He just needs the bolt
Vu says:
You have a few different options
There is medium weight
Light weight
jasonlu2 says:
What’s the benefit?
Vu says:
and extra heavy weight
Well….
[email protected] says:
Do you want Jerry’s number?
jasonlu says:
what did you do?
Vu says:
Extra heavy = more momentum right? And it takes the vibration out of the wobble in the pin
jasonlu says:
Why would anyone go light then?
[email protected] says:
Faster
Vu says:
Consistent burns
harder hitting
like cold starts on your motor type of deal
[email protected] says:
Heavy hits harder, for hard primers
Light is faster for fast lock times
Vu:
You ever have a round not fire?
Due to cold?
jasonlu says:
yes, in phoenix.
Vu says:
like so ****en cold the mother ****er won’t go off
Well heavy weight lube helps
jasonlu says:
but not due to cold obvious
jasonlu says:
I think it was a bad primer
Vu says:
well thats different
we talkin
like COLD
*** freezin cold
jasonlu says:
never shot in that cold weather
Vu says:
yah
call up jerry bro
jasonlu says:
I lived in TX and shoot in Sac..doestn get cold
whats his #?
Vu says:
XXX-XXX-XXXX
jasonlu says:
I’ll send him my **** today
[email protected] says:
XXX.XXX.XXXX or XXX.XXX.XXXX are his numbers
jasonlu says:
what state does he live in?
Vu says:
0097 is the best number
Oklahoma
He actually pioneered the process
jasonlu says:
Why don’t more people talk about it?
Vu says:
It’s like well kind of a trade secret
a few know about it but you know…
Keep it on the down low
Only a few do it right because if u don’t do it right
****s up the harmonics of the firing pin
jasonlu says:
Why don’t you just use a heavier spring?
Vu says:
Think about it
You can only use so much of a heavy spring
JasonLu says:
and then dampen it to take care of the harmonics?
Vu says:
yah
well
ok
springs right
[email protected] says:
heavy springs add to the harmonics
Vu says:
what makes them heavier?
bigger coils
heavier steel
[email protected] says:
tighter etc
Vu says:
You can only fit so much in a bolt
jasonlu says:
How fast can he turn that around?
Vu says:
Not like u can shove a car size spring like a in a bolt.
Dude a week if that
[email protected] says:
3 days soon as he gets it
Vu says:
Call jerry
jasonlu says:
Too late?
Vu says:
Tell him Vu and Jason said u can hook me up
Nah
jasonlu says:
calling
[email protected] says:
He works from home
As most of you have guessed, Jerry Newman of Newman Precision got a pretty weird phone call yesterday afternoon. After work I called Jerry up to explain to him WTF a bolt lube change was and he had a good chuckle.
If it’s the same Vu I’m thinking of – it only makes me laugh more.
um, I’m not by any stretch of the imagination, a firearms expert, but damn that was a hoot. Kinda like when you send the noob out to drain the radiator in the VW Bug.
