Spooked

Congressional Dems know what happens to voter contentment when gas prices go up.

Which is why they’re doing something themselves that they’d have never let the Republicans do.

A Senate committee on Tuesday approved opening the eastern Gulf of Mexico to oil and gas drilling, including in an area rich with natural gas 10 miles off the Florida Panhandle. A 45-mile no-drilling buffer would be maintained off most of Florida’s coast.

The provision was tacked onto a broader energy bill by a vote of 13-10 in the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. The committee was expected to advance the legislation later this week.

The eastern Gulf of Mexico — an area stretching from 125 to 300 miles off Florida’s coast was singled out for protection by Congress in 2006 as part of a deal with Florida lawmakers that made available 8.3 million acres to oil and gas development in the east-central Gulf.

It is not much, but it is a start.

Not that I want to jinx it right now, but locally, diesel has been unusually cheaper than gas. Nearly a quarter cheaper per gallon, making Bull the go-to vehicle (provided I know I’ll have plenty of space to park him).

Hypocracy, thy name is democrap. Not to mention the Chinese are drilling off the coast of Key West.

Diesel’s been cheaper than regular unleaded here in N. Texas, as well. This may be a good time to buy and prep some for storage.

Must be a West and Southwest thing on the diesel prices. Around the DC beltway, diesel remains a dime or so more expensive than super unleaded, which puts it 40 cents more expensive than regular. Kinda puts a big crimp in my recurrent desire to pick up a used Ram 2500 Cummins.

I guess it’s probably something to do with demonstrating to us proles that hybrids are a good idea (cough, cough)…
