308 Pricing Aggregator

I’m gonna add this to the sidebar, probably under “David Likes” as “308 Ammo Sources” — but I’ll post it here first.

.308 Ammo Sources.

Looks like somebody’s got Hirtenberger at $299 for 400 rounds. Debate amongst yourselves whether or not that’s a good price.

Wow, it’s a desert out there. I want some Lake City surplus for the Garand, and more XM193 for the AR…

I have pretty much given up on feeding my M1A… I have about 1500 rounds of .308 stuffed in a closet, but that is about it. For the time being, no large-caliber assault rifles for me…

A little shop here in town, The Gun Vault, has cases of Black Hills Match .308 – it’s probably spendy but that’s life in the Bay Area – it’s all spendy – but I don’t have a .308 rifle.

    Linage,
I feel exactly the same way… feeding and practicing with it exclusively is financially burdensome. I have my stash, but what good is it if I can’t train with it? I doubt I would have enough to spare thereafter. Almost makes me want to sell it… but not yet.

I’ve been looking at a Saiga 7.62×39 with a 16″ barrel for awhile now. That might be the next best thing for me to fiddle with.

I will continue to horde all of the .22LR and 9mm at my local Walmart. Yes. I make multiple trips within the same hour.

All in, I spent on average about $2 per round for match-grade .308 for Boomershoot.

No, I do not like these prices, Sam I am.

Yes, I do finally have enough empty brass to start working up some serious reloads.

Now I just have to find a place to renew my supply of rifle primers.

    “it’s an evil commie plot”…

that used to be funny. Gun show in Boise tomorrow. I’ll post what I see. In the meantime, S.O.G.’s latest catalog shows 90’s dated 75rd bandoliers of .308 for 42 bucks.

    Primers… I remember those.

I stopped buying .308 when it passed $.50 a round. I figure I have 600 rounds give or take. Instead, I have found the blue plastic training rounds from SG, Wideners and Dan’s to be economical and fun to shoot at my indoor range. They are about $.20 each shipped and I have 1000 or so for plinking. They are great indoors and are ‘supposed’ to be good at least to 300 meters. Haven’t tested them yet outdoors. They are made to be used with a special bolt with the FAL, so won’t cycle in an M1A on semi auto. They are super with my FR-8, Peruvian Mauser, and Enfield 2A. With the M1A, you just manually cycle it. It is no-corrosive for sure.

**edtit: My Chilean 1912-61 mauser, not my Peruvian one.

75 cents a round is reality for the short term. would you want to fill a closet at that price?

That depends on a hands-off-milsurp policy by the feds. If they keep their mitts out of the market, prices could fall back to the 50-cent level. If they mess with the market, prices like that will be rare.

Until the reloading component thing irons itself out, I’m doing almost all of my practice with .22 LR rifles and pistols.

I’ve got a case of 1000 of those .308 plastic jobbies — haven’t tried ’em yet, but now I sure will!
