Ding, Dong, the Witch is Dead

That would be California Assembly Bill 2062. After a long and torturous journey through our Legislature, it’s finally dead for the session thanks to LOTS of phone calls and letters from CA gun owners (and, in part, to our ongoing budget crisis).

What would AB 2062 have done, you ask? From the NRA summary:

1) Bans the mail order or Internet sale of Handgun Ammunition

2) Handgun Ammunition sales are registered at the point of purchase

3) A new Handgun Ammunition vendor permit required

4) Handgun Ammunition vendor display security requirement

5) Handgun Ammunition sales at locations other than licensed location would be restricted. (bans gun show sales ???)

6) Bans the sales and transfer of more than 50 rounds per month of Handgun Ammunition between private citizens without a vendor license

When this looked like it might pass (and we can’t count anymore on Arnold to veto these things) I was seriously thinking of getting my C&R, solely so I could continue to buy my ammo via mail. I’m still intending to get a C&R later this year, but the pressure’s off for now.

Why is ammunition registration A Bad Thing? Here’s a recent example of the cops raiding a gun owner’s home BECAUSE HE BOUGHT AMMUNITION FOR A GUN THAT WASN’T IN THE STATE RECORDS.
