Estate owner sue Greenpeace for prediction

MADRID – A group of real estate developers and property owners in La Manga del Mar Menor – a spit of sandy, low-lying coastal land and Murcia’s premier beach resort – are threatening to take Greenpeace to court over its graphic predictions of what global warming may do to the area, which they say have caused house prices to plummet.

The lawsuit, which the plaintiffs plan to present unless Greenpeace agrees to an out of court settlement of almost EUR 30 million in damages, comes more than six months after La Manga featured prominently in a photo book published by the environmental organisation that was intended to shock Spain into action on climate change.

The eco-terrorists say that they’re simply following the UN IPCC report. There are 30,000+ scientists who say that that report is rubbish.

Please, Greenpeace, I beg of you. Do not settle out of court.

Problem is, the basic science involved (the pseudo-science of the UN report) will never be argued in this court, or any other court in Europe, or, for that matter, here.

Any of you legal beagles reading this correct me if I’m wrong, but the defense would move to exclude any challenges to the science and if they succeed, the science will be taken out of the equation, and the suit will hinge on whether Greenpeace had intent to damage.

Throw in the usual uncertainty of the real estate market, and I rate this lawsuit as having a 5% chance to succeed in garnering a one Euro damage award.

Sorry, I would love to see the meddling whale-wankers get their comeuppance from someone besides the French Navy for once, but it ain’t gonna happen here.

The End Times will be the end of Greenpeace, but we’ll probably have to put up with them until then.

So… this is a good time to buy beachfront property in Madrid?
