RNS Quote of the Day: 04/22/08

I do love me some fried hypocrite in the mornin’

“You have to ask what would it take to set off the alarm bells to make this a top-of-mind priority in the body politic. If you had told me a few years ago that we would be facing a situation where the entire North Polar ice cap was going to imminently disappear, I might have thought we’d certainly get people’s attention, and yet only to a limited degree.”

So if it’s all down to governments, is there any point in people “going green”? “Absolutely”, he booms. “I believe that while it’s important to change lightbulbs, it’s far more important to change laws.

“The idea that individuals in their own activities are going to change this is wrong.

“But when they do change they are likely to get behind the movement and that is very important because it is going to be changes in law that will ultimately solve this problem.”

The man who is now as much part of the Hollywood Establishment as he was a political player with the Democratic Party is very careful not to upset any of his celebrity friends.

He wouldn’t dream of suggesting that their lavish jet-setting and gas-guzzling lifestyles could be reined in for the good of the environment.

Criticizing the beautiful people who help him keep up his star status:

Not a good thing.

Passing laws that restrict the amount of electricity your home can use or the number of miles you are allowed to drive:

In an eco-friendly second.

Concern for his money making issue has dropped to 1989 levels.

People are dying of hypothermia in Oregon in April after their cars get stuck in the snow.

Schools are closed in April, in Seattle because of snow.

Mountain passes are impassable, in Washington, because of snow in April.

About the only way RD could have improved on this message was if he’d written it in yellow snow.

  1. Rivrdog says:

    Than Kew, sir. My RivrSis wasn’t as impressed. I am slowing down, the “yellow snow” idea didn’t occur to me.

    But, all that said, we can toss a small note of thanks AlGore’s way today anyhow. After PETA tried to muscle in on Earth Day yesterday by slamming Mr. Gore, he was said (on Fox news, and I haven’t been able to find it otherwise) to have reminded PETA and their Hollywood supporters that the freedoms we enjoy include the freedom to eat whatever diet we want, including a diet with meat in it.

    PETA are idiots of course, not knowing that by attacking the AlGore, they alienate far more folks than they will befriend, and because they attacked a chief spokesman for liberal causes, all of that alienation is going to come from within the ranks of the liberals who put the meat on THEIR table, so to speak.

    Or, to make yet ANOTHER meat analogy, PETA pulled out their “meat”, and then tripped over it.

  2. Bob1 says:

    Democrats = control freaks.

    Republicans = laissez faire.

    If I want government to stay out of my knickers, the choice is obvious.
