Boomershoot Planning, Part 3: The Positions

ViewFromTheTop.jpg

The Random Nuclear Strikes crew (that being Phil and I) have reserved three positions this year: 28, 29 and (I believe) 30. One of ’em we reserved for Dave the GM Guy, who’s once again coming all the way from Michigan. If you’re attending Boomershoot as a shooter or spectator, stop by and say hello!

Each spot is 8 feet wide by 15 feet deep. Phil did a test run on the canopy he’s bringing, and it should fit exactly — 24 feet long, and sturdy enough that we can tie it off vertically without infringing on anyone else’s space. That’s 200% better than the disaster I brought last year.
Here’s the view from our area. We’re in the “Main” section shown above, further downslope towards the “Lowlands” than in previous years.

Hopefully it’ll be greened up by the time we arrive. That makes for nicer pictures (and less fireball danger).

For perspective, the closest targets will be along that little berm under the trees. That berm is at least six feet high.

Blastblastblastblastblast… I hate you all. Not going to be able to make it this year, and I may not next year either.

You better damn well take pictures ;).

Positions 28, 29, and 30 is correct–I just looked it up.

Position 28 is 72 feet from the start of the Main area. Position 30 is 80 feet from the end of Main. So you guys are just about exactly in the middle of the Main shooting area.

For Boomershoot 2009 I probably am going to expand the number of shooting positions to the East further. This will change the numbering for all the position locations so don’t get stuck on the numbers.

Errr….guys, this is just academic since I backed out for this year, but has anyone scouted for depth of snow out there? Also, this weekend promises a Modified Arctic Outbreak, with more snow possible for couple days.

Maybe it’s time to get out all that army surplus Finnish snow camo, and break out your Finnish 91/38 Mosin-Nagant sniper rifles…..and maybe Joe could warm everyone up with a reposting of his famous “fire in the snow” video…

    The latest condition reports are:

    April 15th and April 6th.

I’ll be on site again with a report no later than this Sunday the 20th.

I got moon boots if it’s snowed in, and waterproof Guide Gear boots if it’s wet ‘n’ muddy. I always bring my Gore-Tex jacket, and the BOB in the truck has German surplus Gore-Tex flecktarn camo jacket and pants if it gets really wet.

Californians are notorious for wimping out at the slightest sprinkle. Not me — I grew up in Oregon!
