I spent much of the weekend trying to get various things done so I could go to the range for the first time since summer and do some verifying of zeros. I got stuff done, but one thing led to another, and I didn’t make it to the range. I’ll have to put a few hours in on Wednesday afternoon before I hit the road.
Still, much was accomplished:
1) cleaned the rust from all the threads on the iron pipe legs of the Bench
2) installed a new and much larger (and prettier) Bench Top. This one comes with a drawer where I can stash pen and my shooting notebook. In past years, the pages have always been a distraction as they flutter in the wind and muzzle blast.
3) did a test assembly of Bench Top and Legs, and verified the proper height with my various rests and chosen seating. It felt really good to get behind a pistol, even for a limited test. I could feel myself relaxing into it. Boy oh boy, do I need this vacation. It’s been that kind of year….
4) disassembled everything and packed it into the back of the pickup. Wasn’t sure how everything would fit with the larger Bench Top, which in two dimensions takes up about a third of the Tacoma’s bed. (Told ya it was bigger!) Everything slid into place just fine, including the Ammo Cooler, which was satisfyingly heavy after I…
5) packed the ammo.
Tomorrow night I’ll pack clothes and fix an embarrassing small problem with ALL of my scopes (more on that later). Then Wednesday I’ll put a couple hours in at the office in the ayem and head to the range for blissful hours sighting in. Then home to clean the guns, pack them in their cases, and hit the bed by six for a midnight departure.
Good for you. Have a safe trip and god shooting.
