Ring of Fire

For those of you who inhabit the West Coast with me, you might want to do an inventory.

Several earthquakes have struck the region this week, including two more Friday near the California-Mexico border. The first quake struck at 11:31 a.m. Friday in an area about 16 miles south of Mexicali, a Mexican border town. Its magnitude was measured at 4.7.

The second quake, a magnitude 4.1 temblor, hit three minutes later about 8 miles west of Ocotillo, an unincorporated community in east San Diego County.

That comes on the heels of a magnitude 5.0 quake on Tuesday that hit an area about 21 miles southeast of Mexicali. No injuries were reported in that quake.

The West’s largest recent quake registered 6.0 magnitude in northeastern Nevada. That quake struck Thursday and damaged hundreds of homes, toppled chimneys and reduced part of a historic district to rubble, but no serious injuries were reported.

In the two quakes that struck Friday, San Diego Sheriff’s Lt. William Donahue says there were no immediate damage or injury reports on the U.S. side of the border.

In related news, Washington State’s very own Mount St. Helens has gone quiet recently.

Too quiet if you ask me.

My inventories have been completed, but I still have one very large “problem”, I guess you could call it.

My job entails specializing in the cleaning up and disposing of messes. Anything such as an earthquake or volcanic eruption would mean that I am gone from home for long sections of each day, provided I can travel between the two. If I can’t make it to my regular office, there is a nearby branch that I will be given space in to coordinate things for them (I’ve even applied to actually work out of that location, but was denied).

I really, really do not like it when things get shifty like this.

Hoping for the best here and where you all are at though. Gotta stay positive, right?

I just keep remembering that whatever happens, the eco-socialists will blame it global warming.

I remember St. Helens getting ready in 80. But on Whidbey Island there are always little quakes, every day.

Gah! Thanks for the heads’ up. We’re pretty well set except my water jugs are currently empty. Gotta fix that right quick. Of course I’ve been saying that since October….
