RNS Quote of the Day: 01/22/08

For making all sound so simple for the folks who read the Seattle Times Letters to the Editor section, I present a man who lives up to his name

“Faltering economy could get $100 billion lift” [News, Jan. 12] assumes as fact the theory that government spending stimulates the economy. It does no such thing.

Spending is wealth dissipation, not creation. No government has ever spent its way into prosperity, just like no person has ever spent their way into becoming a millionaire. The fundamental problem with government stimulus spending is that the money spent has got to come from somewhere — either taxes, inflation or borrowing — all of which come out of the economy. There is no net gain, no free lunch.

Prosperity comes from wealth creation.

Government policies that promote prosperity are low taxes, low spending and low interference with free trade.

Walter Bright, Kirkland

And even after this quick and simple recitation of the actual, factual truths of life, some people will still not only not “get it”, but they will argue with Walter.

  1. Joe Huffman says:

He has a claimed I.Q. of 125. He’s got economics figured out correctly. And back in about 1985 he introduced me to the Libertarian party. Just watch your back around him. He’s a sociopath.

See also this post of mine.

There are numerous other examples and posts I could point you too if you are interested.

  2. Phil says:

Well then, maybe Walter should argue with more people who have his “nature” then?
