RNS Quote of the Day: 07/25/07

Somebody here is confused, and it’s not me.

We are not superior. There are no clear distinctions between us and animals.

Dr. Michael W. Fox, former Vice President of The Humane Society in Washingtonian Magazine, February 1990

While Dr. Fox may have more letters after his name than I do, I think I could put to keyboard a hundred distinctions between my self and just about any animal he could name.

The fact that I’ve never caught my cat downloading kittyporn, or using the compter much at all, being just the first of many.

And here the Humane Society is supposed to be “mainstream” and not radical in the least bit. Though I am glad to see the word “Former” included in his title.

  1. JRD says:

If there are no clear distinctions between us (humans) and animals, then why bother to use the title “Dr.” since it can’t possibly mean any clear distinction between him and any other human (or animal). Same goes for his former title as VP of the HS.

  2. Chris says:

People should be aware that some (I can’t claim most as I don’t know) Humane Society shelters in their community are not connected with the HSUS. Just wanted to point that out as local Humane Society shelters do good works for communities.

The very statement by this putz proves him wrong – how many animals say or think that there is no clear distinction between us and them? Actually, I believe that animals are probably MORE conscious of our differences than we are. Starting with their fear of us, based on their knowledge/instincts that we have “magical powers” to kill or hurt them (magical to them, of course, because another of the differences is that they don’t invent stuff or study science).

Another difference is that if animals had this idiots brain, they’d make better use of it.
