Mo-Gem, DigiLight and Keychain

A bit unwieldy compared to modern “tactical” flashlights, but still pretty compact. I usually carry this in my right pocket.

Yes, that means I have two flashlights on my person. I live in earthquake country, okay? It’s important to me to have a backup flashlight. When the earthquake kills the power in your building, flashlights can be very useful to help you get OUT.

  1. I once (semi-long story) found myself in a basement office of a Chicago downtown highrise during a power outage. The room I was in had lights, but the rest of the building did not. I was right next to the elevator, but the stairway up was on the far side of the basement.

Fortunately, I had my PalmPilot on me.

I cranked the screen brightness all the way up, and used it as a makeshift flashlight. It wasn’t terribly bright, but proved plenty for me to safely navigate the darkened hallways.
