Not Their Fault

By now you’ve probably heard of St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Josh Hancock who died while DUI. Not only was he DUI, but there was pot found in his truck, he was talking on his mobile phone, speeding and not wearing his seatbelt. He hit a tow truck assisting a vehicle that had spun out after being cut-off in traffic shortly before Hancock arrived.

Well, now Hancock’s dad is suing everyone this side of Moses. The tow company and driver, the owner of the spun out car, and the bar.

Apparently, the dad thinks that no part of the accident was his son’s fault.

A while back, Ravenwood posted about a young woman who is suing the maker of her satellite navigation system for her car getting hit by a train.

She recounted: “Obviously I had never done the journey before so I was using the satnav – completely dependent on it. I came to this crossing at Ffynongain and there was like a metal gate, which looked like just a normal farmers’ gate with a red circle on it. I thought it was a dead end at first and then there was a little sign saying, if the light is green, open the gates and drive through.

“So I opened the gate, drove forward, closed the gate behind me and then went to go and open the gate in front of me. Then I heard this train and I noticed there was train tracks. It was only then that I did realise I was on a train crossing…”

Apparently, she thinks that because she wasn’t smart enough to open both gates, cross the tracks, then close both gates, that she shouldn’t be liable for her car getting hit by a train.

Here in Washington State, the Legislature allotted $100 Million of the citizen’s tax dollars to “Create Family Wage Jobs” in the state.

Needless to say, the government can’t “create jobs” outside of its own bureaucracy and the program has seen the vast majority of the money go down the toilet, creating either minimum wage jobs or no jobs at all.

(Barely) Governor Gregoire is disappointed, saying that she held her nose when she signed the bill OK’ing some of the funds.

I saw this in my email from the Seattle Times on Monday night and was going to post on it, but decided against it. Until Sound Politics pointed out that this bill was introduced to the Legislature at the request of (Barely) Governor Gregoire.

I guess that the paper is embarrassed to admit this waste of $100 Million of taxpayer money has Gregoire’s name all over it, because they never mention it. Either that or they don’t think it’s her fault.

And I’m damn sure that Gregoire won’t claim responsibility for the boondoggle.
