An Example

Of where the “Progressive” mind separates from reality.

Last Thursday, the US House of Representatives passed a bill that would enact National Hate Crimes Laws.

Proponents of this bill say that since not all the states have hate crimes laws on the books and that the ones that do don’t enforce then in a uniform manner, that we need national legislation.

The fact that any states have Thought Crime laws is a scary proposition in and of itself. But for someone to insist that we need a national statue declaring someone’s intent prior to their crime (based on race, religion, sexual preference, etc) is sheer madness.

Ok, maybe it is just sheer stupidity. What PacNW blogger and hate monger, David Neiwert, said about the need for these inane laws is sheer madness:

The course of the campaign to effect a federal hate-crimes law has, to date, followed the nearly identical path of the anti-lynching laws that Congress failed to pass in the early 20th century (a failure for which the Senate a couple of years ago apologized): At every crucial moment, right-wing conservatives have risen up to block its passage, despite the legislation’s overwhelming favor with both the public and the rest of Congress.

Without even hiding his intent to do do so, Neiwert compares as equals, anti-lynching legislation; legislation whose purpose was to punish people based on their actions, with hate crime legislation; legislation whose purpose is to punish people based on their thoughts.

Sheer madness and utter stupidity.

…and you expected what else from Neiwert? Aristotelian brilliance?
