Double the Trouble

And double the cost, in my case anyway.

Belgium to impose tax on barbequing to fight global warming

The government of Belgium’s French-speaking region of Wallonia, which has a population of about 4 million, has approved a tax on barbequing, local media reported.

Experts said that between 50 and 100 grams of CO2, a so-called greenhouse gas, is emitted during barbequing. Beginning June 2007, residents of Wallonia will have to pay 20 euros for a grilling session.

Do the math, 20 Euros is close to $30 US. I spend that in meat per session if I’m not cooking burgers.

They should pay me for eating an polluting animal.

Basically, this is legislating the “carbon credit” scam. No word on if the Belgian government is going to plant trees or just kiss salmon with the money, but my bet is on the salmon.

They plan on enforcing this law with, get this, helecopters. You think on that for a second and try to not let your brains melt our of your head like Play-Doh.

Just how many pounds of carbon per hour do helecopters put out as compared to the grams put out by a grill?

It’s almost like they’re running out of things to legislate over there.

Are you saying that Helis use copious amount of fuel? Heritic! They are just waiting to install cameras into every backyard that has a grill, sponcered by the grill registy program. Life in prision for a concealed grill. Only outlaws will be grilling! 😉

Beat the belgies to it! I predicted this long ago, and blogged about it recently. The Belgians aren’t good for much except the very best sweet chocolate in the world and some of the best beer. Everything else, they should leave alone and just be sontent to be a blend of Dutch and Frogs.

I wouldn’t mind being known as Flemish, but I sure as hell would hate being called a Walloon.
