Out of Boundaries

Just after I read about Lawrence, Kansas getting ready to ban firearms in 200 feet of “drinking establishments”, I find this tale about a teacher near the state capital who bought a pistol for protection against her domestically violent significant other and accidentally left it in her purse and was subsequently arrested and had her teaching license yanked.

The story doesn’t say if she had a (worthless) protection order against the unspecified voilent relate, or a Concealed Pistol License, or how she was caught with the pistol on school grounds. But if I were a wife beater who knew my victim was at a school; I would wait until they were there to attack them, since schools are “Gun Free Zones” and usually filled with half sized humans.

Which is why the idea of a “Gun Free Zone” is such and idiotic one.

This reminds me of a story I read some time ago about a civil war re-enactor who was invited to give a talk at a local school. The guy shows up in his civil war uniform and someone sees him take his musket out of his car and calls the cops on him. I don’t think anything happen to the re-enactor. Common sense prevailing for once but I love the comment by the teacher of the class to which he was suppose to make the presentation. She said and I paraphrase here. “I really didn’t realize that he was going to bring a gun with him”. I guess this “teacher” assumed that those hundreds of thousands of soldiers who died in the civil war were killed by being struck by overripe tomatoes.

Luckily, OR doesn’t have the alky establishment provision in it’s CHL. We do have the 1,000 foot “drug free zones”, which a few of my druggie neighbors and ALL the gangstas violate.

BTW, Lawrence, KS doesn’t count as being in the Red state. It is a university town and therefore populated with soft-headed liberals.
