JUST SAY NO to the Rafah/Olympia sister city proposal. Rafah is NOT anything like St. Tomas in Nicaragua that the city twinned with over a decade ago.
Rafah is the home of HAMAS, the militant Islamic fundamentalist group responsible for hundreds of suicide bombings in Israel. HAMAS is affiliated with al-Qaida and is a world-branded terrorist organization. Ninety percent of Rafah’s population voted for HAMAS, which now rules Rafah and the Gaza Strip since the Jews left due to the hatred of Jews and violence there. How about our city find a place such as Haifa, in Israel, where Arabs and Jews live in community together? A city which tolerates different religions would much better reflect Olympia’s values!
