They moved from the bed to the wall

No, that isn’t an excerpt of a saucy romance novella, it is a company you may have heard of called Line-X.

Explosive Experts and University Researchers at New Mexico Tech’s Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC) conducted a series of explosions that confirmed the protective capabilities of a new blast-proof paint for buildings – Line-X!

EMRTC Explosive Experts tested two identical concrete structures, one unprotected and one painted with a blast-proof coating made by Line-X Corporation, with catastrophic TNT and C4 blasts. Each room contained an office setting complete with crash-test dummy, desk and computer equipment.

“The dummy in the Line-X protected room was unscathed,” said Alan Perryman, EMRTC’s Research Engineer and Test Specialist. “A little dust kicked up, and the wall flexed and pounded like a giant drum, but everything held up just fine. We at EMRTC are very impressed with the way the Line-X protected room held up.”

For those without trucks, Line-X is the “Hot Ticket” for lining truckbeds against damage, rust and corrosion. I’ve got it on my 98 F-150 and, despite me best attempts, I haven’t even put so much as a scratch in the stuff.

Shortly after I purchased Grimm, I made an inquiry about “painting” his entire outer shell with the stuff. Unfortunately, the weight issue was the only thing that stopped that train of thought.

However, coating a building in their product sounds like a wonderfull idea. While expensive at the outset, I can’t think of much that ‘ol Ma Nature could throw at said structure that would make you even have to repaint it for 20 years.

If I were working at the top offices in Line-X I would be doing everything I could think of to test this stuff for all sorts of construction applications. I am personally curious what happens in the event of fire (Hazards? Combustion? etc.). If it could be worked into residential homes safely maybe those trailer parks would finally be able to stand up to tornado’s. 🙂

Hell – I wonder if the Navy has looked at this stuff yet?

Makes you wonder if Line-X is going to become the commercial equivalent of duct tape? “Just spray some Line-X on it. It’ll hold!”

I forget the brand but one bedliner product has been used to coat trauma plates in body armor with good results… I read it about a year or so ago in an article regarding Iraq.
