Hooray for Remington!

I see that Jim Zumbo’s now a stock clerk. Still has the same attitude, though.

Remington’s my new favorite firearms company, after dumping their sponsorship of Zumbo faster than I think anyone expected. I’m gonna go buy some Remington ammo this week, to emphasize my approval of their quick reaction to Zumbo’s idiotic comments. I don’t own a Remington firearm — and until this whole firestorm, I hadn’t planned on ever owning one. Thanks to Remington CEO Millner’s obvious support of the 2nd Amendment, that’s going to change this year.

So, what to buy? That is, what does Remington make that would interest a non-hunting, left-handed, California shooting enthusiast? Advice is welcome.

Well, for shooting Californians, Remington makes a left-handed version of their venerable Model 700 available in several calibers, including the ability to share ammo with your AR or Garand.

Ha very ha. I’ll have you know we Californians are hard to hit because our tans blend in so well with the golden hillsides. (I sat out and got a tan this past weekend while watching the snow all over the rest of the country on the Weather Channel, so nyah nyah.)

Remington turns out to have a pretty nice website. I’m actually looking really hard at their XR-100 target rifle, which uses the old XP-100 action. If I cut the stock down but keep the overall length more than 26″, I could turn it into my very own XP specialty pistol!

For about $320, you can get one of their shorty defense shotguns in the ever-reliable Model 870. Holds 8 rounds. Will probably remain Kalifornia legal for some time. If you could only have one gun (and I see that day coming in CA), this would be it.

Load it with reduced-recoil slugs, or some of the new short rounds (it ought to hold at least 11 of them).

I’ve thought about the 870, even though I love my Benellis, because it’s just so customizable. Those Knoxx SpecOps stocks seem like just the thing.

And apparently, Remington even makes a version with a left-handed ejection port!

Well, somebody beat me to the 870, so I’ll just add one more vote for it.
Instead of a defense model, you could get something that looks more “innocent” such as a turkey gun, if that matters to you. There are also magazine extensions available, for “special purposes”

  6. Remington also makes the excellent Golden Saber (Sabre? Whatever.) JHP ammo, which many folks choose as their ammo of choice for their carry piece. GS JHPs are also available as bullets only, for those who choose to roll their own.

Much easier to get on short notice than a new rifle. Unless, of course, the PRK has gone all PRNJ and outlawed hollowpoints.

Several versions of the Model 700 come in LH versions. I shoot from the left due to a poor right eye. It started at an early age. Dad watched me use the left eye while my Winchester Model 1903 was to the right shoulder. Fixed on the spot. I was 11. I hunt to this day with a 1918 SMLE No. 3, MK III. I got it when I was 15. I am 52. When a youngster, LH Remingtons and Winchesters were prohibitivally expensive. I still shoot from the left with a RH rifle and shotgun. Adapt
