I got the malfunctioning home appliance blues

For y’all who didn’t stop by this weekend, I’m posting from the “new and improved” RNS Blogstation Tacoma. Thankee to all who lent me their opinions about what possible improvements could be made to it. I’m reading my warranty and thinking on it. You “No Weekends at RNS” types can clickee the linkee and tell me what you think in the comments here.

Follow me below the fold for the appliance rant and rave

I’ve gotten it pretty well set up, pending some issues with getting The Soundboard software to work, although I’m getting to be unhappy with whatever version of XP came with the box. I can’t get a screensaver to work with this thing to save my ass.

All that aside, I’m very much happy-happy with the new speed and functionality of the hardware.

On a different note, I’d like to rant for a second about Whirlpool.

We have a washer/dryer set from said company. We’ve had them for nearly two years now and last week the wife noticed water coming from under the machine.

I disconnected it, pulled it out and looked up underneath it and saw a row of water droplets on the drain hose which comes off the pump. I gets on this here interweb and go looking for a part number. I find it, and continue on the internet tubes to my local parts house and find it in their inventory. All very convenient.

I pick up the part on my way to work on Friday and put it on yesterday morning (because I was dealing with a dead PC on Saturday morning).

An exact fit, with the replacement part being an even better piece than the factory one. Which is what I’m wanting to rant about.

What the hell was Whirlpool thinking with putting such a cheesy part on the first place? It was the most inflexible flexi-rib hose I have ever seen. We only run hot water loads when bleaching whites, otherwise the clothes get the cold/cold treatment, so it isn’t like we’re always running hot water through the thing.

Yet I could have probably used the flexi-hose to successfully play tee-ball with. The crack was in the valley of the first rib, which probably sprayed the pump with water for the last couple loads, meaning I’ll probably have to replace the pump sooner rather than later. I’m already planning on replacing the hose that goes from the washtub to the pump since it is made out of the same stuff, but geez, Whirlpool, you cheesy bastages.

OK, I’m done now.
