Dare to be Stupid: 12/20/06

I really want to see this actual report to see where the increases are. My guess is that they are in the states that forbid concealed or open carry.

Murders, robberies and other violent crimes reported in the United States jumped 3.7 percent in the first half of the year, continuing a troubling upswing that began in 2005, the FBI said on Monday.

The FBI said law enforcement agencies reported that robberies soared by a startling 9.7 percent, followed by an increase in murders of 1.4 percent and aggravated assaults of 1.2 percent.

While someone mentally sound, such as myself, would blame this on criminals, Jabberin’ John Avarosis blames the increase on, who else, the Bush Administration.

Fighting crime takes a serious committment at the federal, state and local level. Bill Clinton understood that. George Bush doesn’t.

Sadly for Jabberin’ John’s opinion, local burb violent crime has nothing to do with policing at the federal level. But then he will never understand that it is not the feds’s job to give local constabularies federal tax dollars to fund new police personell and equipment. That lies soley at the feet of the local and state government. The effort of policing is one of the few tasks directly given to government. If they can’t do it locally, why would someone hundreds if not thousands of miles away be able to do it?

Although I do love the irony of the folks who bitch about the US becoming a “police state” being the first to demand federal intervention in local police matters.
