I’m wearing their clothes right now

Not as creepy as it sounds. Let me explain.

My company uses Cintas for the uniform needs of the employees here. Myself, I’m only wearing one of their shirts, as is required under the new dress code. When my employer told me I’d only have to wear a shirt, I reminded them that it got cold in the office at night, and that I would enjoy to be allowed to wear pants as well.

They laughed, but it wasn’t a “Ha Ha!” laugh, it was more along the lines of “Oh my god, I hope he wears pants!” laugh.

The reason I am sharing this little anecdote with you is because said uniform company, Cintas , has put any and all workers whose Social Security numbers don’t square up on leave until they can provide proof of citizenship.

In an apparent crackdown on illegal immigrants that may signal more to come, Cintas, the large uniform manufacturer, placed six employees from its San Jose plant on unpaid leave Monday.

The move came after the workers failed to verify their Social Security numbers, a document required by employers to prove their workers have the right to be employedin the United States.

About 60 Cintas workers, labor organizers and immigrant advocates, rallying outside the East San Jose plant Monday afternoon, denounced the action. With 30,000 workers in five states, Cintas, is believed to be the first company in the country to enforce a controversial new regulation proposed and still under review by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The regulation requires employers to resolve the so-called Social Security “no-match” within two months of receiving a letter.

The idea that a company may be putting into effect rules and is thinking of  marketing the fact that they only employ legal residents is appealing to me. I’m glad that we use them and I am happy to wear their shirts. I’d wear their pants if my employer would let me.

BTW, my employer does said screenings before letting new hires on the property. Our competition does not. This pisses of my Teamster drivers to no end. Not only at the other company, but also at the current local union leadership for letting illegals become members.

Do they sell a line of casual-wear clothing? Or generic work clothing?

I can use a few sets of overalls about now, and would love to buy from a company with real, by-God citizenship.

As far as I know, RD, they only do uniform services. But that may just be up here.

I forgot to put a link to them in the post, here it is

That’s great. Plus, while uniforms suck sometimes, at other times it’s helpful to wear out or ruin someone else’s clothes, especially if you work anywhere they can get greasy.

Unfortunately, I think they’re the exception. Now with the border fence (concept) collapsing, it’ll be more of the same.
